And like others have said, there are tons of references to the "War on Terror" throughout the show. A couple background jokes: the undercover agents are in a van disguised as a mobile pet grooming business named "Blendin." And it's implied that Mr. Daniels, the former ethics teacher, had a stroke after Maeby asked him to the school dance.

I’m 38, and the War on Terror was a big part of all of our lives when I was in high school. There’s a ton of references to the war in Iraq and the broader War on Terror throughout AD’s three season run. You might have to be American to get them 🤷🏻♂️
