Ehh

I’ve been having a lot of nightmares lately, lately being the last few years and a lot being 2 - 3 each and every night. Is that normal? I always assumed that most people bring up nightmares every time they have one, which is not that often; I, on the other hand, only feel the need to bring up nightmares when I have a particularly troubling subconscious late-night picture show… a feeling I can’t act on because the content of such dreams is not suitable for work or for life in general.

It must be so nice to bore the pants off someone telling them about your “weird dream” where Captain Planet was cheese and time went upwards, oh and Jeff from that place a few years ago was there and he was also your mother. I can only watch peoples faces curl into disturbed disgust as I recall my night of redacted where redacted in fire made of images of my own screaming face; oh and there was a puppy but it redacted

No, in fact I only tell people about my rare non-horrific dreams, which are inexplicably still on level with most peoples nightmares. So for the most part, I present like everyone else in terms of dream disclosure. I don’t talk about them except for bringing up a rare socially acceptable nightmare, packing the rest into my increasingly cramped “don’t think about it” box . It makes me wonder how many other people are out there, silently suffering through broken sleep every single night, fitting in is such a burden.

oooo, write them down. keep a book. illustrate. publish book. make millions from film options. I know money will not solve nightmares, but at least you can have a super comfy bed to put them in. Also, I love nightmares. My own cannot rival yours, I'm sure, but I have them quite often—not every night, but maybe once every other month?—and I find them very entertaining and usually really good ideas for stories. but I also don't the kind of past trauma you've had to trigger them, but my own trauma is weird enough for me. You know, you have both writing and illustrating talent and tons of imagination—make more art! That's my Ted Talk. Now back to sleep.

It's about taking control of your dreams..any time I get a bad dream I take it over and change the dream ...turn it into something safe and fun...its hard to do but controlling them gives you back a bit of control...I wish I could do the same in the day with real life ...

Based on a complete lack of knowledge on my part, but having heard and read many other people’s experiences, if you’re getting horrific dreams all the time, as opposed to merely upsetting or scary then you probably need to deal with them. As the correspondent above says there are plenty of people who deal with PTSD who will help. For myself they are very rare and generally only occur when I miss my meds or I’m ill. Anything that helps you is good. And your pics are lovely xx

Some people are annoyed hearing about dreams but I don't mind. I stopped most nightmares at about 23 by just lucid dreaming if they happen — although some weird psychological horror, like sitting in a car with a family member who is doing weird mind games to get me to lower my defense so she can stab in me in the stomach with a cooking knife, that can still get me, and bees. I injured myself trying to get away from a dream bee attack, throwing myself across my desk and into the wall. If you got a SUDDEN uptick though, check your meds to see if any list a side effect of "night terrors"

Hi Alice, as a former soldier and retired law enforcement officer, I was diagnosed with severe PTSD back in 2017, along with it was night terrors. I underwent EDMR and was prescribed medications and in combination they seem to be working. Stay safe and reach out directly if you need a shoulder to vent on

Rob

Not appropriate for public disclosure, but there are certainly people with high tolerance levels who could deal with you telling all. It's just about finding those people. I know it's hard

Pretty Alice, brightens my gloomy day

Alice, have you looked at or considered EMDR therepy for trauma? It started for soldiers witg PTSD but is now used by many people that have suffered trauma. I really worked for me and i know an increasingly larger number of people that are now benefiting. Xx

Me... Ian
