Episode 246 - Caught Out in a Unpredicted Storm at Sea!

Sailing from Sardinia, Italy to the Balearic, Spain we are caught in a unpredicted storm which blows up to nearly 50 knots so quickly and as we try and reef our sails the furling line for our Genoa (headsail) snaps and the full 140% headsail bellows out and sets our boat onto a cause we did not plan on and had a real job to deal with, without being dismasted in the process as we have two cracked side stays! Join us as we battle our way to the Balearics and when we think we are through the worst of it, more storms hit all over again!

That’s really weird 🤪 hope the strong winds don’t cause too much trouble where you are John! Mother nature’s definitely not to be messed with! 👍

It’s was a bit crazy!!! 🤪 but last year the med had some terrible unpredicted storms with huge winds which wrecked quite a few boats, so we were quite lucky really! 👍

While watching this I received the following message on my phone: "Public safety message Blowing dust warning in effect until 8 pm, wide-breast blowing dust and strong wind gust up to 70 miles an hour, severely limiting visibility, are expected. Travel will be dangerous. High-profile vehicles are not recommended." How's that for timing? Actually I have had strong winds for about three hours with some very strong gusts.

Exciting passage and good memories now that you made it through it ok. Nice sailing video for Pickle crew.
