Promare video (copyright issues)

Hey all, so I woke up to a very lovely email from Youtube this morning saying that a company named Molebeat have claimed my Promare video, and have blocked it everywhere. Now, luckily, this isn't a strike, just a claim - the only positive here, tbh.

Few people I talk with among the anitube community (who've had experiences with Molebeat) say they don't back down, and 99.5% of the time, win their claim. When this happens you not only lose the video as it continues to be blocked, but you can face a strike on your channel.

A strike is something I'm really wanting to avoid at all costs! Up until now, I haven't have a copyright claim/strike issue, but alas. The time has finally come.

The video is going to be removed from Youtube. It's just sitting there atm doing nothing, as it's blocked anyways. But it will be available to you guys still here!

It majorly sucks, but there's really nothing I can do about it unfortunately. But it will still be here for as long as I'm around!

All the best,

Dani

Yeah, sucks that you can't even rely on searches to determine that kind of thing... the inconsistency in claims/strikes (while understandable given the sheer amount of content being created) makes it impossible to know if anything you might make is viable or not. I did search up Molebeat after reading your post and they are long-time antagonists (7+ years!) on YouTuber. Really unfortunate...

It's such a shockingly bad system! And a frustrating one, too. The reason I chose Promare was because there's plenty of videos on the film, so I thought it was a safe one to choose. But nope! I've had companies who just slap manga panels or anime posters into tops asking me to sponsor them.. Why are they allowed, but fair use content isn't? I know it's because of the laws, or lack of, in Japan regarding such. But it's so annoying! Molebeat apparently go for Promare, Pokemon, Comic Girls and Mushoku Tensei, after having looked into it.. So if anyone has any plans to cover them, i'd think twice πŸ˜”

I am always shocked how much doujin content is created in Japan somehow despite the lack of fair use and these kinds of absolutely draconian copyright enforcements. It just seems like no one would ever be able to write any kind of critique or review or tribute or anything without copyright strikes coming in and wiping them out. Also, how daily tshirt companies (and artists in general) that sell designs based on any Japanese IP have managed to stay in business while YouTubers struggle with claims/strikes has always been a mystery to me. Surely stores that sell products directly based on IP is a more glaring and immediate threat than someone on YouTube talking about it... right? Maybe it's because YouTube makes the claims/strikes accessible and this company Molebeat has built their entire business around selling the service to these companies? The world is wild.
