December update

Hi everyone!! Above is Sonnyé Lim's amazing guest animation for TOTB that they finished last week.

I'm doing well, I'm in finals mode and losing my mind, but I'm managing.

I'm pushing TOTB back again, and I'm actually finishing it as my thesis film at SAIC now. I graduate next semester, so that means I'm finishing it in the next few months, and I have a strict deadline so I can present it as my thesis project so I can graduate. It's sort of a career move, because I'm also applying to animation teaching jobs/grants for Cone Layer/etc, so I think releasing it this way will help me in that way. But my musician (Vania Junco) needs more time, my sound designer (D Wibowo) needs more time, my guest animators (Tobi Lee and Sherry Xie) need more time, and I (me) need more time, so I don't feel too bad because I think it'll make it way better if we have a little more room. Sorry for the delays, but I think what I've learned from the previous projects is that the time spent working on the stuff is actually pretty invaluable. I still regret pushing so hard on SALIATOS and Barber and there's tons of stuff I wish I fixed while working on it that I can't now.

I'm debuting my performance piece on Sunday, The Brittle Brine of The Ocean and The Fish And The Fish Are Crying, which I've been working on for around a year now. If people are interested I'll upload a recording maybe?

I have a lot of random experiments I've been working on at school that I'm definitely interested in expanding on.

I'm still working on all my live action and documentary work as well.

I'm applying to grants and funding for Cone Layer, but also my documentary work as well. Pretty excited!

Right now I'm starting a longterm research project about colonial histories in Asia, and comparing it alongside the developments of their individual animation industries. I would like to develop curriculum for US animation students that helps contextualize what it means to be an animator in the US, which is actually a very complex position to be in, and political the way everything is. I think the politics of animation labor and industry is ignored in very embarrassing ways.

More to come! Talk soon
