Post-Video Reflection: Dianna & Levi discuss the Hot Oil video

Hey yโ€™all!

Here is my reflection with Levi about my latest video on the Leidenfrost effect. There was a lot that went into making this video, a lot to discuss since the video has come out, AND I wanted to try to answer some of your questions this time -- so we had a lot to cover!

These reflections are fun and honestly helpful for our video making process, and I'm so happy y'all have shown such an interest in these conversations.

Hope you enjoy!

What a bummer! I'm sorry that it was demonetized and age restricted.

Best of luck in your chats with YouTube -- it's definitely frustrating to feel like you're being treated differently from others who have shown similar effects on Youtube. Youtube's point about it being too informal (no lab coats, just looks like someone's backyard, etc.) is super interesting because on the one hand, part of your channel's appeal is the accessible nature of science, but on the other hand, this particular instance feel like discrimination against people that don't necessarily have the resources to make an "official" lab scenario. Anyways, it's still an awesome video and thanks for sharing while you could!

Humans use algorithms, too. Just saying. Hang in there!

Haha! This was a thorough suggestion! I actually have considered releasing two videos. I'd love to have JUST the leidenfrost footage stand on its own - it's so beautiful! But the hand-in-oil was such an intriguing hook, in my mind. We'll see!

I'd like to claim that, but it was human-reviewed. :)

Throw some thin sliced potatoes in afterwards. They will boil instantly. Cook book says 365 F. A nice snack to crunch on to end the video. ๐Ÿ˜‹

Smart people try to think of 1 reasonable solution. Please consider this instead. Break the video into 2 information sets. Remake the hand dip in your garage with many faked lab props. Your studio. Make sure you have a large periodic table of elements chart on the wall. White lab coats, ect. (Don't say "we can't show safety precautions because of YouTube policy.") Dip hand and fake scream to scare everyone. Just kidding. ๐Ÿ™‚ Video 2 is the whole step by step safety precautions you took including hand dip. Explain things that can go wrong. Still don't try at home. Let YouTube know exactly in writing what you are doing. You have to stay "best friends." Video 1 is G rated. Video 2 is R rated before even being posted. You don't seem adversarial in my book. Instead act like they are a little smarter than you are, and take any suggestions they give you. Work with them. ๐Ÿ˜‹ Best wishes. ๐Ÿ™‚

YouTube video algorithm age restricting that video proves they have no clue what they are doing.
