Annual Membership changes + More info!

(Image from Rosewater Manor Episode 4)

Hey everyone,

There is a change coming at the end of the month to annual memberships and I thought that everyone should know about it before making any changes. Basically the discount right now is set at 16% which is Patreon's maximum. This setting has been on for several months and a fair amount of Patrons have already taken advantage of it. Since it started slowing down lately, I thought that it would be a good idea to reduce it down to 8% and bring it back up during the holydays and special occasions. The annual membership discount was always meant to be limited in time but since so many people chose it, I kept postponing this moment.

The strange empty message that some of you received was actually meant to be a promotional message with information about Rosewater Manor and Nursing Back to Pleasure but for some reason some of those messages arrived as empty, which is really strange.

New rewards to Freedom Tier and Tier 0 Patrons coming in a few days as well, so keep an eye out for that if you belong to one of these Tiers.

New billing system from Patreon. Lately, the option to bill Patrons one month since their initial pledge was put in effect by Patreon. Basically instead of being billed on the first of the month, you would instead be charged on the same day as your pledge but one month later. For example if you pledge on 17th you would again be charged the Tier amount on the 17 of next month. This is an awesome change that I cannot wait to implement but for now I decided to wait a couple of months so they can iron it out and I know it's safe for Patrons. I would hate to see instances where Patrons would be double billed because of some error or bug and I want to stay on the cautious side for now and see how things play out before implementing this change.

As for Episode 4 of RWM, things are going good so far, there will be a post soon enough detailing it more.

Have a great day!

One of the motives behind this change is as I stated in the post, the maximum discount was only supposed to be available for a limited amount of time. The 8% discount will now always be available with periodic discount of 16% being again available in certain times. For example during the holydays or at the start of a new game. These periods will of course be announced and they will range from 2 weeks to even a month as they were intended to be from the start. That doesn't mean that the change can't be rolled back if it is requested but I did notice a drop in interest for it so leaving it as is all the time seems a bit useless right now. Also I want to mention that initially I wanted to make the discount 20% but for now I can't go more than 16%, I hope that can change in the future.

So will you be clearly defining the periods during which the differing discount rates are henceforth to apply because we existing annual subscribers will have to decide how, in these very uncertain economic times, this change is going to impact upon our current and future budgetary arrangements and what we can, or wish to, do about it? Are you sure this move will not be quite potentially to your own financial disadvantage? Perhaps my ability to manage my money is poor, but it seems to me in truth and in reality that it will be a financial disadvantage for me to elect to subscribe at 8% (or worse, monthly) when I know that, if I am patient, even though, as a January subscriber (as I am) that may be for a large part of the forthcoming year, I shall ultimately both honestly and legitimately be able to take advantage of your offer of twice the discount at a later date. In the meantime, for that deferred period, you will have been without the presumably not inconsiderable benefit of my normal January renewal in its entirety until I re-sign at which point I'll have the equally not inconsiderable pleasure of catching up with all previous episodes I've missed during the year. As I said, perhaps I'm missing something in my viewpoint which is partly why I am setting out my understanding here now, but deferring contributions like this, which may well also be the case for other of your patrons, seems to be potentially more of a liability than a help to you, especially considering the fundamental motive for attracting subscriptions annually, in terms of presumably necessary funding assistance in the development of your creations, unless of course, in this aspect of collecting support, these contributions now represent only profit for you.
