This is a video of me creating a freehand map.  Though it’s a little under 16 minutes in length, it gives you a good idea of how my maps start.

Working through your preliminary sketches, no matter how much you dislike them, is a crucial part of bringing your cartography to the next level.  Remember, its only a basic idea for you to work off of when you go to ink.  Speaking of, now that I have an idea of what I want my map to look like, its time to move on to inking!

OPTIONAL HOMEWORK: Using the grid & border you laid out in the previous lessons, start filling in the coastlines & topography.  You can make it anything you want as this is just a practice map to use what you’ve learned so far.

I so appreciate you didn't fast forward this one. Loved seeing you starting from scratch!

A butte is essentially a small plateau with cliffs around it. So generally, I draw them similar to cliffs.

How would you draw buttes to match this 3d look?
