Some of my homebrewed rules

I've shared some of my homebrewed rules with people in Discord and online and have had quite a few people ask for more information.  So I copy & pasted a few articles from my own playbook.

Character Secrets - There are 3 levels of secrets and even ones they can keep from me as the DM!

Musical Instruments for Non-Bards - For my players that end up picking up an instrument but aren't playing bards.

Death & Unconsciousness - I've been playing D&D since second edition and have long since sort of changed the original injury/death rules and kept them because I like the idea of death/injury having consequences.

Karma Points - This is one of my favorite things I've instituted in my games that allows my players to bribe me with points to do things in game.

Building Your Character's Story - A fun series of questions I have my players answer to give them fun points of conversational topics and to really get to know their characters even before our first session.

Letting Players Help World-Build - I love letting my players completely world-build their home towns, organizations, schools, etc. from their past.

I hope you enjoy these and if so, please let me know!  I might add some more as time goes on. :)

Always happy to help and plan on adding more as time goes on seeing the fantastic response these got! :D

Thank you for sharing these. As a new/returned to the game after many years player these help a lot. I had never DM’ed until the world stopped during Covid. I love not only what they do to help create and flush things out but they are flavor to the game with a style that is more fluid and less book strict. Appreciate you sharing.

Oh! I see!

Oh no. I didn't mean Bardic Inspiration. I meant the one inspiration the RAW grant to gain advantage once or whatever.

I love using them but I don't stop any bard from granting inspiration to their fellow players but it's limiting and I wanted something that gave them a desire to get as many points as possible and to spend them wisely. It really helps when my players get stuck or hyper-focused on something they think is a lead when it might not be. This way, they can just bribe me for direct information and save them a bit of time. :)

I like what you have put together. It clearly shapes your game for you. Well done. I especially like the Karma Points concept as a replacement for inspiration in my games. It feels more character-driven to me.

Thank you! I love them too! I love to give players fun things they can do with their characters that allow them to go beyond their character sheets & both of these really encourage that. :D

Yeah, I loved the concept of death/injury having consequences but they made it WAY too complex. Exhaustion points make perfect sense too and can lead to the party rethinking combat.

REALLY love the non-bard music and karma points! Feels like fun ways to get more player interactions, and allows more depth of character.

I like the death & unconsciousness rules. makes perfect sense that being taken out will have consequences. I like the simplicity of it as well as opposed to the OS rules or "Roll"master.
