Dungeon Mistress Characters [poll]
Added 2025-07-29 14:05:58 +0000 UTCHi!
Bit of a quick impromptu poll. (Admittedly, I've got another set of somewhat-similar poll choices for Speedrunner that'll show up on Thursday. Apologies for inundating you all; I'm hoping contributing to the direction character development goes in is fun instead of feeling spammy.)
Per the reader poll results, my plan for next month is to write a Dungeon Mistress story, probably the opening chapter of something that I can continue to add on to periodically.
As you'll recall from the ending, Chris and his friends will be starting a new campaign. That means the story will begin the way that all D&D campaigns begin: creating characters.
I need to decide what kind of characters they create. In particular, I could use some help with Chris and Mike's characters. They'll want to plan something different than they played last campaign, when Chris was a paladin and Mike was a wizard -- but what?
I don't want to spoil the context, just yet. I've got some plans laid already, plot-wise. But my plans for the story will 'work' with any of these choices -- although their character selections will give the action (sexual and otherwise) some specific flavor, just as their classes did in the first campaign.
Options below! Feel free to vote for one choice for Mike and one for Chris, or just to click on any/all the choices you like. Quick descriptions for those of you who don't know much about D&D:
Wizards are as they sound; Mike was playing one last campaign. Enchantment wizards specialize in spells that affect people's minds. Put them to sleep, charm them, hypnotic suggestions, and so on. They can cast other spells as well, but that's what they're best at.
Warlocks are spellcasters also. Story-wise, their defining feature is that they get their power from a pact with a demonic patron (vs. from old-fashioned book learning, like a wizard.)
Barbarians are just what they sound like. Half-naked enraged melee fighters, not big on subtlety. Half-orcs are monstrous, hulking brutes, with a similar propensity towards violence.
Rogues are the lockpicking, backstabbing, sneaky sorts. Halflings are basically hobbits with the copyright infringement risks filed off -- wee, nimble folk.
I await your input! Poll is open for about a week, so that I can get a direction locked in and start working on it.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm excited to be continuing it and have lots of ideas that have been percolating for the couple months since I published the last chapter of Dungeon Mistress. I don't want to give away too much about my plans, so let's just say I feel extremely confident that I can make a barbarian or a rogue work well for the interactions between Mike and the ladies. :)

2025-07-29 18:24:40 +0000 UTCFrom a writing perspective, it makes a lot of sense to have Mike be a rogue. From the first story, Mike was pretty firmly established as a coward, and I could see the ladies teasing him every time he does something stealthy or sneaky. The Dungeon Mistress series is definitely your favorite story of mine and looking forward to seeing what you come up with next.

I feel like him being a warlock risks a repeat of the dynamic he had with the mistress from last campaign
