I imagine you guys form a more coherent thought on the subject latter in the podcast (since I arrived here 1 year latter), but if I remember correctly the author did, indeed, write Umineko with discussion forums in mind. Like, I am not sure if it was frustration or a reaction to Higurashi specifically (though that make sense), but I think I remember it being explicitly written taking into account people would be talking about it online and paying attention to the most minimal details, so in that sense a lot of the series does seem like a very clear dialogue and even rebuttal of online culture.
