Episode 129: The Butterbeer Bosses

Deathly Hallows chapter 17. Oh my god, an actually good chapter? It sounds too good to be true, but we had a blast reading this oddly self-contained story that starts as a spooky horror movie and ends with an outrageous and strangely endearing Voldemort sequence. We also learn all about The Butterbeer Bosses, engage with a listicle trying its best to navigate Harry Potter clickbait in a post-mask-off-JKR world, and more! Finally, we visit the Slytherin common room, which proves to be far more blessed than we could have imagined.

(mild content warning for the first segment: if a listicle bumbling through elements of the series' transphobia/racism/etc doesn't sound fun to you right now, start at 14:00!)

I don't see how they can not cover it (and I think they probably should); but lord, she's exhausting. What is it about TERFs, that being one just completely subsumes every aspect of their lives?

on the question of "are wizards christian" it just occurred to me earlier today that their hospital is named after an actual christian saint. like I'm sure that the out-of-fiction reason is that mungo is a goofy name and jk probably would've been familiar with him as the patron saint of glasgow but it definitely raises some interesting questions. were the saints in harry potter world all secretly wizards and people thought that their spells were magic? and the fact that this is never explored in any way sure makes it seem worse that she went out of her way to say that indigenous people's belief systems were all fake!

I don’t know whether I hope you two cover the TERF queen’s latest book turning out to be about a transvestite serial killer in next ep’s news segment or not. On one hand, fuck Jowling Kowling Rowling, and she doesn’t deserve the mention, on the other hand it’s actually kinda funny in a “crosses the line twice into unintentional self-parody” way
