What's Going On?

This post is a bit of a heads up. Yakuza 5 is next, I am honoured, amazed, and more than a little worried that I am genuinely this far behind on Yakuza videos. I never expected it to be a problem that the milestones would be leapfrogged like this, but do know I will fulfil them all in time. 0 won't immediately follow 5, but I'll try not to leave as long a gap, I don't the channel to stagnate, and I need a break between Yakuza entries, I don't want to suffer burnout for any series of videos, let alone Yakuza.

Right now I am splitting my time between three things, getting the afterthought video done for We. The Revolution, which I hope to have up in a day or two. I am still recording footage for Yakuza 5 because the game is too damn big

YAKUZA 5 IS TOO DAMN BIG

That image I captured about 5 in game hours back? I'm currently playing as Akiyama, as in, I'm about 3/5s of the way through the main story, don't worry I'm not going for 100% but obviously I want enough meaningful experience to talk about.

VR PROJECT(s)

The third thing I'm working on is for a project I want to tackle after Yakuza 5, a series of shorter playing videos on VR capped off with a proper playing video or two. I usually don't plan ahead, but I wanted to try juggling two projects simultaneously. These videos are:

VR Melee comparison
Gorn, Blade and Sorcery, Until You Fall, Thrill of the Fight, Tales of Glory(?)
I've been kicking around this video idea for a while, but held off because of the early access nature of many of these games, but I think there is enough to talk about.

Comparing Half Life: Alyx and Boneworks
With this video I want to weigh up both games approach to VR and their unique strengths

H3VR Revisited
I basically just wanna show off that I'm John Wick now (actually talk about mods, custom characters, and the progress of the Take and Hold mode over the year, plus talk about all the lovely tips I got from people on how to play, which have been really helpful)

Playing Tales of Glory
This I am still somewhat unsure on, I enjoy the game but even though I keep coming back to wanting to do this, I don't know if there is enough material, this video spawned out of a combination of wanting to do a video on a VR game and wanting to find a Mount and Blade-like, of which there are sadly few, and Freeman: Guerilla Warfare didn't do it for me.

My interest with this is basically, I want to talk a bit more about VR, I find it fresh and exciting. We'll see how it goes, gathering footage for this project is slow (not as slow as Y5!) because I can't play VR for extended periods in one go without my eyes getting sore. Plus with this project I want to try for more concise, focused videos and experiment with comparative formats a little

OTHER IDEAS

I know myself well enough to know I tend to just do what I want at that moment, but here's a rundown of projects that have been on my mind lately, these aren't guarantees of video because I'm way too scattershot to say.

Playing the Sonic Series Wrong
I want to talk about Sonic, and I'm trying to figure out gimmicks for each entry that'll allow me to talk about the game itself, and in the nature of how I'm playing each game wrong I can hopefully talk about a larger surrounding topic. This mutated from me wanting to do a video on Spark which I still sort of want to do.

When I say playing it wrong, I'm talking weird technical gimmicks. Like emulating two versions of Sonic 1 at the same time and controlling each. Or Playing Sonic 2 in mirrored mode with a bunch of emulator effects like pixel smoothing. Or the PC version of S3&K (if I can actually find a working copy)

Watch_Dogs: Legion
I mean, this is a given, Boris is still alive. I'm waiting on Aiden Pearce and multiplayer DLC because I guess right now Ubisoft has me by the balls

Dead Rising Commentary
This is a pipe dream, something I've kicked around in my head since around Halloween 2018. I've received a lot of comments over the years requesting the original Dead Rising and part of why I've never done it is I figured I talked about all the games strengths by way of comparison to other games. But I could likely still make a big ass video to talk about it on its own terms, and it'd be an excuse to replay Dead Rising a bunch.

Voxel Turf
This has been a secret project of sorts, me and some friends recorded a multiplayer match of this a while back. three sessions over three weeks, miserably dull time. And I wanted us to then round table our experiences so I'd know what to talk about, I could trim the footage into a sort of narrative of what happened while explaining gameplay concepts along the way, and bang we have a Playing video with a recognisable but unique flow.

It's mostly laziness and the fact that other projects keep coming up, and now that match was recorded so long ago I feel a little stuck regarding it. That's the footage that should be used, if we record another game it wouldn't quite be the same, the interesting aspect of it came from us learning the ropes and how certain players played. We also never got around to exploring the game's mechanics in all that much depth for reasons that'll be explained if this video ever happens.

WELL THAT'S THAT

There are more games, individual ideas floating around, but we'd be here all day if I weighed up everything I considered an option. These are just the ones I'm most interested in.
Just to wrap up, if you are a patron and are not in the discord and want to be, send me a PM for an invite. I messed up the discord bot years ago and now frankly I am terrified of messing with it. So I handle invites personally.
My email no longer feels it necessary to ping me when I get a message here, but I check my mail every few days. Thanks for reading, please leave any thoughts below if you have them.

Oh also I got a new PC that's an absolute beast so that's nice, I hope it'll improve the visual quality of the videos.

I also kinda want to make a Garry's Mod machinima if I ever find time

Comments

No, Yakuza: Dead Souls I see.

I'd love to hear you ramble on about Dead Rising but I'm excited for whatever you make. Keep up the great work, I hope 2021 turns into a big year for you!
