One time I was NOT informed of cameras in a client’s home and found out that I had been getting dressed in front of one for an entire weekend 🥲

as a dog sitter i’m always SO uncomfortable when clients have cameras in their homes. it makes me feel like i need to be in work mode 24/7 and they are not paying me enough for that. more recently i was staying in this lady’s RV watching her 2 dogs & 2 cats and the first night i’m there she texts me at midnight accusing me of not actually staying there (?!?) while i was asleep in the RV. she also required that i text her any time i leave and again when i return with pictures of the animals each time 😃😃😃

My MIL had to install a camera in her mom's apartment (nursing home) after a few elder abuse incidents with some not-so-great nurses. It definitely changed the dynamic between MIL and the nurses, but it's worth keeping her safe. My other GMIL recently passed after her nursing staff neglected a serious injury (we don't necessarily blame them but like... how can we ignore the many hours between the injury and her making it to a hospital?) Having to put up a camera to ensure someone's safety is honestly a horrible feeling. It would be nice to not need it.

okay i literally listened to this while i was on the way to target to buy a blink camera. i’m very anti all these surveillance devices and usually find them unnecessary and harmful. but i have a roommate that for some reason is adamant on staying on the lease and paying rent without living here. (have begged her not to do this but it’s complicated and besides the point). anyway she has started associating with my insane ex who has been borderline stalking me and harassing me over emails because he’s blocked on everything. so now he has access to my apartment from her. i ran out to get cameras for the time being and called my friends to plan my protective order speech. while i was a victim of my parents life360 lockdown as a young adult stuck in a jehovah’s witness home, a modern surveillance device is possibly saving me from getting hurt and adding evidence to my restraining order!

So on one hand, I work for a pet care company and we’ve had several instances where clients will speak through a camera that staff didn’t know was there or text saying they saw something. We’ve told staff to act as if they’re always on camera now. We feel it’s invasive but also understand. On the other hand, I got robbed in 2019. I was fast asleep and didn’t realize until I woke up and walked out of my room to find a window wide open, my purse gone and my car gone. It was the most invasive thing that has ever happened to me and now I can’t sleep by myself. It was one of the most traumatic things I’ve experienced and that says a lot bc I’ve had many such cases of trauma. Anyway, now I feel like if I bought cameras I’d be justified. I know that wouldn’t do much but maybe it would prevent something like that from happening again. They caught the guy by finding my car but otherwise, I had no cameras and they wouldn’t have had an idea who came through my house.

When I was in elementary, my older sister, who would’ve been around 17-18 at the time, worked as a swim instructor at a local pool. She gets a call one day from her manager alerting her that they discovered 50+ cameras hidden in the women’s staff change room being used to spy on and target my sister and other women staff by a man who was working at the pool.
