I thought I'd try to take a break this week, but I guess not!
May your grandfather’s memory be a blessing, Aleena

That’s a mighty fine curve! Such a surreal experience seeing the train that’s pulling you like that😂 so sorry to hear about Aleena’s grandpa, RIP ❤️

The Amtrak Cascades, which is a similar concept and length, has been a bit more hopping in my experience. Depending on the city and the day, and also the layout of the train. Especially if it is Portland to Seattle, or college students traveling from Eugene to Portland on a Friday night, it can have a lot of youthful enthusiasm.
I mean, especially for you it would be pretty social! I've talked with people on the Amtrak Cascades about you, so you might have a fun time meeting people there!

It's a fairly utilitarian train, yeah! People are genuinely using it to get somewhere and aren't thinking too much about the fact that it's a journey.

I noticed that there wasn't much of a social scene on this train, like no talking to people in the lounge car, etc. Is that because this is more of a commuter train and so people aren't in the mood for fun?

On long distance routes, it is so that they know who to wake up! On many long distance routes, they don't make announcements at night, and stops might be a 100 kilometers apart, so someone sleeping through their stop can lead to a lot of problems. So they have those seat checks so they can wake people up for their stops.

I dunno, it happens all over the place in America! In Denmark I've seen trains with a screen above the seat showing whether or not it's been reserved, is that part of it? That's a great question!

I know it's been a bit, but best thoughts to Alina. Your right about Lancaster County, it's stupidly pretty.

I once slept on the floor of the Pittsburgh Amtrak station in a blizzard. 0/10 do not recommend.

So sorry for your loss, Aleena. He sounds like he was a lovely and supportive man. This was a thoughtful way to honor him.

My home route! Wish Pittsburgh got more service but feel blessed to have as much as we do. I'm using this train to get to the City Nerd/The War On Cars event next month!

why are the passenger's tickets placed overhead on the edge of the luggage rack. I can appreciate it's so that the ticket inspector knows who's ticket they have checked but I have not seen this done in any country in Europe or Asia .. so do the Americans know something about how to check train tickets that the rest of the world does not?

Fun fact: Altoona is the Corporate HQ for a certain gas station/convenience store...

So glad you did this line, it’s like seeing my foamer biography: the Pennsylvanian was the first train I ever took (Greensburg to NYC), and Altoona was the first place I ever rode public transit on my own. That said, seeing a FACT bus in this video is the only fun thing about FACT. -6/1000 transit system!

We now have proof that Alina was not carried away by the feet people.
Unless, in typical Miles fashion, this was recorded months ago BEFORE the feet people got her...
