You were right that Metroway served an important purpose before the creation of the Potomac Yard metro stop, but it still provides a critical transit purpose. The real meat of the route is the service between Potomac Yard and Braddock Rd on Route 1. Traffic on that road was brutal before all that new development and it's going to get even worse as more and more people move in with the new Amazon HQ2. The dedicated lane seems superfluous on a Sunday, but during rush hour, its utility becomes quite apparent.
