A pretty odd Amtrak service this week! Superliners, a backwards section, and one of Amtrak's more ridiculous "business classes"...
Ahhhh fair enough!

PS Since you're essentially traveling for your business, you should always ask for the business rate; if they have one it's cheaper than the rack rate.

I traveled a lot for the government before retiring. I tried to get suites if I was staying anywhere for more than a day or two since it's basically hotel shorthand for rooms with some variation of kitchenette with sink, full-size fridge, microwave, and often a dishwasher. Suite rooms are also usually a bit larger and sometimes even have a separate bedroom. The government rate for rooms is fixed by metro area and since both Marriott and Hilton usually charge that rate for any room in the area it's not like the government was paying any more for me to have the suite.

Hilton Diamond Member here... Yeah, Home2 and Homewood are designed for longer term stays. Home2 and Tru are the "discount" sort of brands now (as is Spark, though those are lower tier renovation properties). You or I as guests are not Hilton's customers... the franchisees are. Lower points means lower fees for the franchisee which means lower room rates typically.

I got the weird business class car on Lincoln Service too!! Did the upgrade bid (embarrassed to say I did not do a poor bid, rip) and it was a business class car with half sectioned off for coach and half for business class, but the modern Lincoln service cars, so still uncomfortable lol. They also forgot to mention we got a free drink so no one got one lol. Weirdly enough tho they still had the old cafe car with the old business class section but no one was allowed to sit in there.
