driving with Carter

Let’s dive right in. My first favorite out of the series - the first one you see here - feels the most like Saul to me. With the large amount of negative space (although with some texture), the glance towards the camera and the slight underexposed subject, I feel like I’ve seen a photo like this from Saul. Again, peeking a glance into a private space, the solitude of sitting in a car alone feels precious. The reason I liked it better than the next one is simply that the exposure is nicer, giving a darker grey than the other. My second favorite of the series - the third here - feels cinematic to me. I do wish there was less contrast between the outside and the face, but the face itself makes up for it. Maybe that’s why I chose three favorites from this series, I just love that face. The third favorite - the fifth here - initially disappointed me. I was bummed that you could barely see the hand in the rearview mirror, which at the time of taking the photo looked so nice in the viewfinder. I loved that I was getting two frames in one. But again, the contrast between the outside and inside was too great. However, I do love the framing of Carter’s face - how one eye is almost falling out of the frame. I also think the composition is nicer, with the eyes falling right on the upper third line (fulfilling the rule of thirds). Lastly, I must mention the last photo. What a silly frame. I let the giggles carry me away with that one.
