0026 - Dewey Largo
Added 2021-10-04 08:01:01 +0000 UTCOne of the most significant, non-significant characters in the show's mythos. I mean, there he is every episode*, right there in the show's intro, but what do we really know about Mr Largo?
I think he might have been at least partially designed as a foil for Lisa, but quickly became obsolete in this regard as very quickly the show established that Lisa's main enemy is...well...the world.
The only notable characteristic is that he's gay I suppose. I think that makes him our first LGBTQ+ character? This mainly comes up when the show needs to make a comment that involves more than one gay character, which is rare.
Mainly his appearances are just being a stereotypical teacher, from a child's perspective. He's brash and mean, with no sense of fun. According to the Simpsons wiki, he was once voted the worst character created, which seems harsh, but I can honestly say I probably do prefer "Girl Playing German Santa" or "Burglar."
