0088 - Loving Father

In an episode that centres largely around Homer comparing his family to other families, this is the most...comparing...est. A father, mother, son and daughter, highlighted only as examples of a perfect family in contrast to the Simpsons.

Of course, later in the episode, they are seen in Dr Marvin Monroe's waiting room, taking the same therapy that the Simpsons undergo, so perhaps their entire idyllic life is a facade.

It's subtle, but it matches up with the episode's thesis that no family is truly perfect, you figure it out as you go. (Also what is up with that painting?)

Anyway buckle up we've got four of these jerks. Mr Burns predicts big things for this guy. Mr Burns was wrong.

And here he is in When Flanders Failed. He seems to be at the BBQ before Homer arrives, but not at the picnic table with his wife later. Maybe they took it in turns to pop round while the other watched the kids? (or maybe they divorced post-No Disgrace and co-ordinated their visits to the Flandereses to avoid one another?) https://frinkiac.com/caption/S03E03/147726

I know! I had never noticed it either, until I had to watch every frame like a hawk. This whole endeavour is very rewarding.

How did I never notice they were in the waiting room? Love that detail.
