And so we come to the end of another episode! Another mix of barely recognisable weirdos - Rod Flanders is clearly the standout of the bunch, but I have a soft spot in my heart for Cowboy Bob.
In assembling this image I noticed something strange - a extremely high hat count. Of these fifteen characters, five have hats. That's a new character hat count (NCHC) of 33.3%! Remarkable. And that's not including the baby, who as we discussed, is NOT part of the official count. Also, without even meaning to, I made all of the hat characters face the same way, and almost all the non hat characters face the other. Was I subconsciously aware of this episode's unusually high NCHC? Almost certainly yes.
Is "The Call Of The Simpsons" the highest NCHC to date? Let's crunch the numbers:
Tracey Ullman shorts: 20 characters, 2 hats. NCHC : 10%
Simpsons Roasting On An Open Fire: 27 characters, 7 hats*. NCHC: 29.9%
Bart The Genius: 15 characters, 4 hats. NCHC: 26.6%
Homer's Oddyssey: 20 characters, 4 hats. NCHC : 20%
There's No Disgrace Like Home: 21 characters, 2 hats. NCHC: 9.5%
Bart The General: 9 characters, 3 hats. NCHC: 33.3%
Moaning Lisa: 12.5 characters, ZERO hats. NCHC: 0%, VERY poor.
So there you have it folks, Bart The General and The Call of The Simpsons have the joint highest NCHC, but in my personal opinion, Bart The General is cheating by having so few characters in the first place, thereby boosting the percentage up.
We have reached 140 characters total, 15 are from this episode.
* I am counting a bandana as a hat, but not earmuffs.
