The kid who Homer affectionately calls "Pint-size" sings to Homer in the Kwik-E-Mart.

The song he sings has a few names: "Arabian Riff", "The Streets of Cairo" or "The Poor Little Country Maid", and despite being commonly used as a signifier of the middle-east or Egypt, it will probably not surprise you to learn that it did not originate in any of those places. Iterations of it were composed in France, Germany and America. I say we cancel this kid for his poor misrepresentation of belly-dancing culture (which did indeed originate in Egypt.)
Incidentally, in this scene Apu asks Homer if he recognises Homer from somewhere. This is what I was talking about back when we covered Apu - it's hard to remember a time when he wasn't friends with the Simpson family, but at first he was simply a worker on the periphery of their lives, not a trusted companion. Just thought it was worth noting! Maybe we'll be able to pinpoint the exact point they become friends.
