PHEW!
I thought when we finished covering the Tracey Ullman shorts how ridiculous this was, and that doing an actual episode - never mind a full season - would be a battle. But here we are!
There are a lot of familiar faces here, and perhaps notably a lot of absent faces. Season 1 has established Springfield as a town, and defined the type of people that live there, but The Simpsons has a long way to go to find its identity. Stories focused mainly on the core family ensure that the audiences field of view is somewhat limited - we see Skinner and Krabappel, but not much of the school life beyond that, for example. We'll get there.
The most important character introduced in season 1 is clearly Lenny. If I could make him the MVP of every season, I would. A close second would probably be...let's say...Uranium Rod #2.
I wonder if covering future seasons will seem shorter, despite them being almost double the length. We've established a lot of the bigger characters, and as we tick more of them off the characters I'll be drawing will be more specific and esoteric. Not to mention that a lot of the random citizen roles will be filled by familiar faces as time goes on.
We have met 241 characters so far, 220 of them are from season 1. That doesn't include the 50+ bonus entries, of course.
Let's move onto season 2! It's gonna feel WEIRD.
