0266 - Secretary

Another single appearance character, as far as I can tell.

At least she's slightly more memorable than the guy from Monday, whoever that was, in that she has a point to exist in the scene. Homer's refusal of her advances, and Marge's subsequent jealousy, are sort of cute, but then the episode moves on completely - a "Homer hires an overly flirty assistant" plot would be fine for most sitcoms, but what this show cooks up is much better.

I always feel for the character designers in moments like this, being tasked with the challenge of providing a character that is meant to be considered "conventionally attractive" while still looking like a Simpsons character. The show is intentionally somewhat ugly, and as we've seen with the 265 characters preceding this, the characters are too. But I think they did a pretty good job!

Besides, I don't wanna kink shame. If you find all Simpsons characters attractive, go nuts, enjoy.

A minor correction: I name her as a secretary, but she is actually applying to be an assistant. If anyone asks, she ended up being a secretary elsewhere. Maybe in Shelbyville.

Maybe it's just that there's only so many ways you can draw an "attractive" character in the Simpsons world, at least from this early era.

I've always seen this character as a proto-Mindy, which doesn't make too much sense as she's overtly flirtatious and applying for this role which is nothing like the job Mindy had (co-worker). I think it must just be the eyes and the fringe. Comparing the two characters now I no longer see it.
