We're going to skip back ever so briefly in the episode to have a look at this churchgoer, a front facing character who looks more like he's out of a Sunday comic strip than The Simpsons.

The oddity of the rare front-facing Simpson character is well documented, I think people's uneasiness towards this phenomenon comes down to two factors: the noses are usually designed in profile and do not easily rotate to this angle, and the underbites are difficult to communicate from the front. Look at the mouths above, they do not look like Simpson mouths, they just look like...lines.
I've drawn Hans Moleman head on a fair amount as part of Legend of the Mole-Man and there's no hard and fast rules to making it look acceptable. That's why we mostly avoid dudes like this.
Speaking of background weirdos:

I could have picked out a bunch more people from this specific crowd to cover, but I stuck to the ones that stuck out to me most. Perhaps in the year 2154 when I've already covered the entire series and need to produce more content(tm) for the Patreon to survive, I'll circle back and cover some of the rest of them.
Yes, I intend to live another 130 years. Why do you ask?
