No one knows for sure which abyssal pit the bellyfish emerged from. Floating on the water surface, it lingers near busy trading routes or close to buzzing coastal cities and towns. Wherever humanoids may cross its wet path, it waits – sometimes in great numbers; usually all by itself. Still, the bellyfish is never alone. Above the water, it emits playful squeaking sounds to lure its land-dwelling prey. Beneath the surface, however, these sounds mutate to an eldritch, bell-like chant, startling all marine life close enough to the bellyfish. Once the frenzy is over, all that is left to do is to feast on the drifting remains.
