I’m hanging out with Hazel! I can’t believe she’s all grown up! I’ve got some great video ideas for her since she’s doing so well on her training! Anyone else have a “doodle”?

Thanks, our 10 month golden doodle "Loki" is very motivated by treats and has responded great to training using your techniques. He is easily distracted outside though and without hesitation will disregard everything he has ever learned when another dog or person is sighted up the street. Wondering if he will get better focus after he has reached his full growth and is fixed?

Yes! Super normal for a young dog. In a nutshell, exercise him JUST before he’s likely to encounter guests. Have him on leash when guests arrive so that you can prevent jumping. Once he settles down, give him your full attention and reinforce the good behavior. See my videos on jumping for better illustrations of these concepts. Great question! We have an almost 8 month old goldendoodle! Pappy (like the bourbon)! He is such a great dog. We do obedience classes but also refer to your videos for additional tips and tricks that don't always apply in class. He does really well with most cues but still struggles with getting too excited about visitors (dogs and people). He is a bit rude to other dogs when he greets them and jumps all over them. Any tips? I'm sure some of it is normal puppy behavior but he gets a little excessive with it.

Great question! It takes about a year of training to teach your dog to stay in a variety of contexts, and that’s provided you go out of your way to teach in lots of different scenarios. Particularly when it comes to impulse control, there is a fair amount of life experience required for your dog to generalize concepts like “stay”. Hope this helps a little! Keep up the great work!
