The Daily Grind - Chapter 315

Comments

Thanks for the chapter!! I was really hoping that with the return to the Underburbs they’d be able to find some kind of cure or treatment for Zhu, so Vex’s help sounds super promising

Saradactyl

Oh, there’s more than three enemy delvers! But you’re right that Vex’s team are in that form.

I didn't notice last week, but the rule of three holds true for Vex and her crew - and the baddies, it would seem. I wonder what James and co did differently that broke the mould? It can't justbe that his friend group was bigger than 3, or Sarah would have folded him in before the story started. And it's not a function of Officium Mundi, for the same reason. It's not the rescue from Karen, because Dave and JP were in before that. Was it Rufus? It was only Anesh and James, and then Secret entered the mix - limiting them to two. Then they told JP, Dave and Alanna all at the same time. So... Rufus did it right? That's the only thing I can think of.

Thanks for the chapter, loved it. This feels like a real threat while also making the Order feel stronger than earlier in the story, well done!

Still obsessed with the way you're able to evoke panic and fear and stress and gnawing dread with your prose. It's evocative in just the right way, not so much that it's gratuitous and purple-prosey but still a fucking haymaker. Every chapter's a fucking blessing.

So, that fakeout was actually unintentional, and I hadn't realized it could easily be read that way, which is my bad. Also *I* don't remember James making Sartori either? I actually had meant to imply that they're the curse-assignment that JP got hit with during the long delve, which *was* a "no shoes in the building" kind of thing.

"And then, step for.  Rest." for -> four

That was a *mean* fakeout in the scene with Simon and Spire. It's hard enough knowing they lost someone, but thinking it was Alex the whole time, and offscreen no less... :'-( Also I enjoy that James doesn't even remember being the one to Incept Sartori into JP. I don't know if you actually ended up going with my suggestion in the comments of that chapter that the incepting command was "no shoes, no shirt, no service" but it's hilarous that even with super memory he doesn't remember being the...Inceptor? to JP's Inceptee. Or is it technically more like an Athena-style mental impregnation? Has Research looked into if the command-giver has an impact on an Assignment, or is it just the person being "Assigned"?
