Start of the project and creation of the Polyshifter

I finally got to a point where I have a proof of concept project at a place where I know that the rest is just solving problems.

Again the name for a modelling tool is not written in stone allthough "Polyshifter" sounds kind of nice. It's 2 votes ahead of the rest.

The project and the mini course will circle around a railsystem, as mentioned in this Post.

So first I gathered some inspiration images, not to be the exact modell later but for the general feel of what this will end up.

The general target for this project is to take a terrain and draw a line on it. This line then sticks to the surface and projects a rail to a chosen height.

From here on we create a rail that needs to be hold by elements that react to the dynamic height of the rail to the surrounding terrain.

After that we need to react to the changes in the terrain. Cliffs need to create bridges and for the rail to go through mountain we need to build a tunnel.

For the first complete chapter of this project I wanted to start with very basic shapes. So no high poly models - only simple shapes to block out the structures we are going to need.  This will also allow me to finish the video series in a hopefully acceptable timeframe.

In future chapters we can tackle topics like detailling the models, creating interesting terrain and cool looking particle effects when the rail gets used by a train.

The basic train placeholder I also want to add in the first chapter. It will be an interesting problem to solve.

The polyshifter will carry the functionality to solve the main problems that occur during this project.

I hope I woke your interest for this project.

Cheers

David
