As you probably noticed I went silent for quite a while. I think I needed some rest from the work involved around recording and wanted to learn a bunch of new things.

Now that I did that I want to shift back some of that focus back to creating content and of course that should begin with you that kept supporting me over that long period.

In these past months I learned quite a few things in different areas. Some of that not even Houdini related - like building a discord bot based on python... yeah - don't ask.

Allthough I might have a fun idea for our Discord Server - basically twist the Alexa skill I once build for fun - into discord service where you get function descriptions, code examples and create mini games around learning VEX. I take that on just to give the discord a bit more life and because I think it could be a quick way to get the info needed. It also allows me to build a version of the vex library that everyone of you can access without using the HDA.

But that's just a small thing I want to do to provide new value again.

There are a ton of projects, that I started to look at - that I began to experiment with, other small onces that I made in silence but not shared here.

But these past months also made me re-think how I structured the tiers, how I made rewards and I want to simplify that more.

That is related to the nft membership post i am writing next. So more on that later.

In this post I want to get a feel of the remaining people here to see which area is still of interest. Then sit down start recording again. My current simplified idea is to have the video content go public but only patrons have access to the files. Basically how the Railsystem worked.

So let's see how we come back into this.

The first big thing that has not seen the day of light is the Cyberpunk world creator using Houdini and Unreal Engine. I wrote a summary of what it can do here:

Triggered through this experience I did explore more Unreal stuff and even started to build a prototype. And one point where I wanted to stop to build a series - was to create a spider mech that has a kinefx rig and then have an unreal control rig setup to create procedural movement.

I touched it here - again that was a unreal heavy project.

The result would be to get a thing like shown on my twitter

That was the time when I got curious about the NFT Space and wanted to learn what it was all about and granted... became a bit obsessed about it for a while. But it also gave birth to some interesting concepts.

One small project I did was to turn a black and white 2D image into a 3D card that is placed inside a crystal all done with refraction rendered in Unreal - this was the result

The final entry is about exploring some VAT techniques to bring RBD sims over to Unreal as a lightweight texture. A process already covered by Simon but I wanted to do some experiments myself.

Here is an example

I am ALSO currently working on more sophisticated procedural modelling for sci-fi elements like helmets. But this has a long way to go - but in the end it is supposed to be able to create thousands of variations. But once it is done I share it with you guys.

So let me know what is the most interesting to you guys.

Going back to recording, Houdini and Unreal Focus - while I slowly incorporate an interface to the NFT space - details in the next post.

Cheers

Dave
