2026-02-23 19:30:48 +0000 UTCi feel it's important to preface for the next episode that by the time sophie and benedict meet again it has been several months, though the show isn't super clear in this episode on how much time has passed outside of brief mention of the number of society events they've attended. *miniscule* spoilers for ep 3 - they do give a rough time scale in the next episode of how long its been. you also have the fact benedict had been drinking the night of the ball, and was not sober when he met her for the second time. in the books, 2 years pass & sophie looks physically different and it makes more sense he wouldn't recognise her.

2026-02-22 20:47:58 +0000 UTCIn the book, Sophie Beak was Sophie Beckett. She was blond and not Asien. Thats why Benedict has so much difficulty in finding her. Here in the show it is borderline stupid that he would search in all the different races instad of just going for Asiens. They are following that part of the book but as always are inclusive when hiering the actors. Also: When they met at Kavenders party, it had been over two years. Sophie had to cut her hair so she could sell it and lost a lot of weight. It was way harder for him to recognize her that way.

2026-02-22 13:36:33 +0000 UTCSophie is a bastard child so thereβs a lot of stigma surrounding that, plus the fact that Lord Penwood never told Araminta about Sophieβs existence until after theyβd wed. Now, most normal people would be angry at their husband for hiding a child, but sadly, itβs all too common for people to take it out on the child rather than the person they married. I guess even more so in the past when women didnβt have the privilege of being openly upset with their husbands. In short, no, Araminta has no justifiable reason to hate Sophie.
