Cheap Alpina B7 is Dead - Supercharged V8 BMW - Project Chicago: Part 3

Comments

I actually don’t want to “❤️” this (cause it’s not good news, overall) - but great content and production nonetheless. Looking forward to the rebuild

You should somehow turn this project into an NFT and use that to finance it:D

It's been said several times here, but I have joined so I could help you on this one: It's going to be a doozy. Good luck!

I literally joined 10 minutes ago and this is the first comment I read XD Couldn't agree more.

That’s an incredible growth in Patreons 😀 it’s because we all think you are amazing, and that’s not just because you are incredibly talented and a great creator with video and editing skills that are beyond most people. It’s because you have this wonderful ability to relate to us. I personally feel that you are talking to me alone, and that I am going on the journey with you.

I'm about to go pay a $2200 service bill on my 740i Sport - don't give up - keep going!

Hi Sreten. Same with me, I gladly support the B7 so you can keep the E30, please!!! I need your instructional videos on the E30 for my own project.

You got my money brother 👍🏻💵🔧

Just had to support you on this one.. Don't sell the e30!!

Same here - may the wrench be with you!

Also signed up to see this thing live another day. Thank you for the awesome content and good luck on this rebuild :)

As a mechanical engineer, I would LOVE to see a root cause analysis from the Alpina or the BMW engineers to explain why all these damage can happen to such a relatively low mileage engine. But we all know pigs will learn how to fly before this will occur.

Same here - GOOD LUCK

Same here, had to sign up to help with getting the block fixed...

Sreten, please do not sell the E30. If you setup a GoFundMe on the Alpina, we can all help you out on the the cost of the engine rebuild. Just tell us, we are here for you.

Had to sign up to help you on this one...

Cool project. My 745 burned oil like lamps of China, nicasil issue….. not a cheap fix. I love the 7’en series - the whole family did by the way, of all de bimmers - 745 was the best family car… but once warm, and left idling - my god - smoking like Cheech and Chong!

Huge respect to totally rip this thing apart. Hope there will be a straightforward way to find a good new block.

Sreten, great episode again. I love cars but going that deep with so many bolts, hoses, parts seems so overwhelming to me but it is great to see that someone has enough patience to take it to the end. BTW what’s your plan for Karlsruhe?

Very engaging video as always. Great to hear it’s going to be rebuilt. Can’t wait for the next installment.

Another amazing episode, can't wait to see what's next with this thing, keep up the amazing content, I had to support you for that Alpina :D

The difference between you and I is I would of just driven it until it had issues. I appreciate that you are doing this, however.

Love the content , Keep going! Cant wait to see the full rebuild and hear the engine ROAR again :)

I love that you’re really digging deep into the car. Open heart surgery like this is taking your capabilities to a higher level from refreshing suspension, brakes etc which you’re clearly really comfortable with. Keep going, it will be worth it in the end - the Alpina has a unique value the other cars in the fleet don’t have.

Maybe even more... if you do not feed it nails .... nice!

So is the crappy USA fuel at fault for the cyilinders?

As I was the previous owner of the E30, I have no advise to give but it is not a problem for me if you need to sell this nice car to someone who should be able to care of this old baby, to have a small positive budget from the Marbais project to put in the Chicago project; Sreten you have to decide in accordance with your followers, but don't hesitate to take a hard decision to continue your fantastic business, Michel

When does the 2 post lift come in?

You can assume all the damage is secondary to the broken oil pressure sending unit that drained the oil and starved the engine of oil. The owner kept driving it until something really bad happened. I have heard the following in the past: "the red light went on, but the engine sounded OK so I kept driving until it made a bad noise. I hope everything is ok, honey". My boat partner said more or less the same thing recently, except without the honey.

How do you organize all the parts that you remove? That alone must be a huge job.

Scott Sanford

I couldn’t disagree with you more. While the E3x models certainly are the sweet spot, the early 2000s BMWs were the last of the best, and having worked on many a E9x, E7x, E6x myself, Sreten does an excellent job of glueing my eyes to the screen while I watch

Upgraded my account so it helps that the e30 doesn't leave the garage

I am enjoyin this A LOT but I have to say, parting with the E30 makes sense financially but it is painful to watch. I'm even startng to feel like my E46 is too much of a hassle to keep up on. Like some other commentators mentioned - E30/31/32/34/38/39 that's the sweet spot of BMW. But hey who knows. I always appreciated the E65 for what it is, drove a brand spanking new 735i in 2002 - it was pure bliss. Then again, this is the first video I watched where I was briefly thinking of skipping ahead which I have never done on any of your other videos about any E3x models - probably anecdotal and doesn't have any meaning to it but there is something about these late 80s to late 90s BMWs that is magical that they just lost in the early naughties. Whatever happens, if you do end up selling the E30 VVFL make sure to get another one, even if it's a totaled facelift 325i but you gotta get to experience the E30 with 170 or more hp - it is a riot trust me!

DONT SELL THE E30 TO FIX SHITTY ENGINE

kaloznyk

Learning from this engine for sure will make anything else look simple. Haven't even started watching the video but im sure its great as usual.

I found my wallet hiding under the sofa ... just listening to the number made it scared! I think it is time to increase the subscription, you're going to need it.

You mentioned you never rebuilt an engine. you have everything you need, the skills, the shop, the manuals. looking forward to you reviving this thing!

Femaref

So glad to hear this beast will live on, but a good reminder why the E38/E39/E46 will be the latest chassis I will ever own.

Done as well, Sreten needs patreons more than ever!

There is also no such thing as a numbers matching bmw 😂😂

Denis Caterenciuc

Planning to upgrade the subscription, you need all the help possible in this moment! Love from Italy!

Hey Douglas. No such thing as numbers matching, not an old Mustang. Chassis and block have nothing connecting them. It'll likely get a brand new Alpina block, aftermarket doesn't exist and if anything, it will raise its value even more.

M539 Restorations

Restore the original block, keep the numbers matching. Aftermarket block will diminish the car’s historic value.

Same Sreten König

Always!

Like first, then watch.
