Between the Olympics and the Vampire Lestat reveal, it's a big week for dramatic and liberating French antics. Meanwhile, across the pond, Americans live in a bubble of such enormous repression, it appears JD Vance has a worrying couch kink. But more on that later. Speaking of horror, I never thought Iβd be a groupie, yet here I am thanks to the best working crew on television.
Leave it to AMC's Interview With The Vampire to continue exceeding my expectations and honor Anne Rice's memory by making sure rockstar Lestat is a solid combination of David Bowie, Jim Morrison, and Michael Hutchence. They got the costume designer, writers, and music team to turn a teaser into art. Somehow, they managed to come up with a solid glam rock song saying: "Here come the gays, here comes the fear." β°οΈ
I am abnormally annoying about this and have found the will to live as I await season 3. If you still haven't watched this show, I'm sorry your life is way less fun than it could be. I also recommend the beautiful orchestral work that composer Daniel Hart has been doing with the soundtrack. You may have heard his scores for The Green Knight and A Ghost Story.
Since we're on the topic of great horror soundtracks, I made an It Follows remix since spooky season is upon us π Also, the July Vlog is up with all the Comic-Con nerdery. And here are some shenanigans happening for our Coven this month.
DJ Bruja coming back to Mixcloud on August 20th. The dance mix I'm working on might be an hour of Billie Eilish singing "Charli likes boys but she knows I'd hit it" π We got a new 30 Day Summer Challenge in the Discord βοΈ Plus, 2 listening parties happening in August, including the Coven's Favorite Covers next week π§
As always, there will be watchalongs, Q&As, and more yelling in the Discord about movies and politics. In an effort to not be so negative, here are some things I liked about that terrible Deadpool movie:
When X-23 yelled: "Adios, pendejo."
The fight sequence featuring Madonna's Like A Prayer
When there were no cameos
RDJ wasn't in it
When Wolverine said: "Fuck the Avengers."
All the butt shots
I've paused to write this astrology rant while intoxicated. According to the stars, August is for revelations. We thought July was surprising? Apparently, things are getting more shooketh, as the youths say. The DNC is happening in Chicago the week that Jupiter squares Saturn. Those are highly charged energies, with some astrologers predicting some surprising information that will poke at our beliefs. It seems like we're receiving a wake-up call.
My advice is to not let media and propaganda shake you. There are enough dummy conservatives and liberals constantly fighting and trying to dunk on each other. This is the most unproductive way to exist as most of us live paycheck to paycheck, and those in power continue to enable fascists and fund massacres. Of course, we should always vote for those candidates who seem less shitty, but the real work is in organizing our communities.
When we get shaken, I hope that strengthens our unity consciousness and we can fight against polarization. Because no one is coming to save us but ourselves. So be less weird about politicians and stop idolizing them. They are not kings and queens. They work for us. Our job is to scream at them until they do what the people need. That's real democracy.
And as we yell at them, we need to show more care for each other. The world will tell you humans suck, but I disagree. Of course, there are a few greedy assholes that should take a tour of the Titanic. TERFs should be shamed and fear propagandists ridiculed. But I truly believe most humans do the best we can. It's in our actual nature to help each other. So put a little love in your heart and watch for your fellow neighbor. They have way more in common with you than some selfish, privileged politician.
Having just turned 42, I finally know the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe, and everything. The answer is community. As much as we enjoy our solitude and it seems easier to be alone, we need other humans to survive. So thank you for being here and making this the strangest, coolest Coven on the planet. Sending y'all blessings in the form of peace, good music, orgasms, and tacos β€οΈ
