september q+a

hey, guess who just remembered the question and answer sessions are a thing!

this month's theme will be questions about backstory regarding characters. i'll leave it open and say it can be about any character, not just main characters/protagonists. i'll be answering questions on the 30th.

i'm just gonna copy and paste the parts that are still relevant from the last one -- this is just fluff in case you don't understand how the q&a's can work.

this is going to be the post where i answer questions. you can post them  here early and i will answer them on the 30th, or you can wait.
you  can also send them to me privately or like, send an ask or e-mail with a  throwaway account if you want it anonymous, i can post it here as a  comment.
you can ask friends for questions and post them for them if  you think they'd be interested or whatever, i'm not gonna be super  strict about it.

i will be editing this post on the 30th, so you will get an extra notification when the answering is actually happening.

chances are the majority of these will be text answers, but i might respond with drawings.

i will be labeling the nature of answers in brackets in any response with some simple tags to test it out:
-"soft canon" means it may or may not be canon. it can be listed as canon, but if anything in the hard canon contradicts it, it's not canon. it's like, recessive gene canon.
-"hard canon" means it's definitely always established canon unless retconned.
-"personal" will mean it's my opinion/interpretation rather than actual canon (usually meant to facilitate thought about the text without changing it, if that makes sense).
-"soft pass" will mean i don't want to answer the question but will explain why.
-"hard pass" will mean i don't want to answer the question, period!
-and "idiot sandwich" is going to mean i'm saying something that is very likely to cause a contradiction in canon because of an internal disagreement.
these tags don't have to mean anything to you, but i don't want to confuse people.

you can also suggest future themes for Q+A sessions or ask for clarification in the comments here and i will answer those before the 30th. see you then.

Comments

[idiot sandwich/soft pass] i try to avoid numbers like this because they are rarely meaningful, especially with characters who are written about at multiple times in their life (ie. how many times sugar's been in a ward depends on how old she is). let's say she has a suicidal breakdown every year since the earliest confirmed date, senior high school year, and assume it's about school in some way. since she went to grad school, probably ~8 times if she had no previous episodes, subtracting one time where her episode was the plot of drop-out instead of being institutionalized. she has definitely stayed longer than a week, probably exemplified in fresh meat, where she is staying until her ECT treatment is finished. i imagine the longest she's been there excluding that has been a couple of months at a time.

[hard canon] that little green thing is called 5150 -- an alter who integrated with several others during the therapeutic process, and now the "dominant" personality of izzi, sometimes evidenced when quinn still refers to izzi as 5150. it is a self-identified homunculus and scientific experiment, and the glass bottle draws heavily from fullmetal alchemist -- although it's just a beaker, and homunculi in most capacities are grown in some kind of lab equipment... izzi's just a pseudo-kinnie. tl;dr: yes, it's still canon, and it's basically izzi's current host as a baby before therapy. :)

(from DM) "What is [the weird Izzi vial thing] specifically? What is it's deal as part of the current or former system? Is it still a canon part of Izzi's backstory or is it an idea that's been discarded in the process of re-designing things?"

How many times has Sugar been in a mental health ward? Has she ever stayed as long as a week?
