okay, here's the next page; it's late because i had a pain flare this week that mercifully only lasted a day...?? the shading will probably be done on sunday since it's comic work anyway.
something i removed from the dialogue here for the sake of brevity/pacing is carmilla mentioning that it's not difficult to draw a rose or chains because they're both mechanical patterns, and that she used to draw them as a teenager.
there's also just, development sprinkled in here -- mentioning some kind of occupation outside of the ward for carmilla, and hinting that she doesn't function well in daily life if she can't even care for plants well.
what she says here about the rose elaborates on her own concept of deliberate antagonism as much as it comments on kim's more abrasive/defensive interactions. the chains obviously refer to more systemic structures like the ward.
it's also difficult to draw "different styles" in my style, especially because they are all still rendered in pixels... for carmilla, i tried to make her lines scratchy, add some flaws in the anatomy and perspective and composition, and had her do pillow shading, so that it looked less experienced.
i also mentioned on stream that maybe it will be surprising to some readers that carmilla seriously participated in this therapy instead of continuing to me flippant; in my experience -- art therapy was not mandatory at the ward this was based on. there was a slot for recreational therapy, where you could go to several different activities, some of which would be not available in that slot just because the person who runs it is absent.
basically, it meant i never really encountered anyone who want to art therapy to screw around because it wasn't mandatory anyway... it felt more meaningful to have them be consistent with this experience. in the original script this was not the case, but carmilla was always slated to draw a rose chained up.
the reason the newt is doing this one is because they needed an actual therapist to host art therapy for some reason... i dunno why. it was also a good excuse to use her design more than once.
anyway, that's all i have to say about this page. sorry for the lateness.
