Fairy Tail Bluemage (Chapter 18)

Ugh. Boys.

A blue haired girl watches a column of lightning smash down on the white haired mage that she has partnered with.

Briefly worry grips at her heart, but...

He just stood there.

He can see magic.

He likely knew he could take it.

Ugh.

She was annoyed when Laxus went around and started shit. He might be one of Fairy Tail's few S Class, but he is an absolute bastard at times.

It was a little cathartic to see someone tear into him. But she should have expected it would have turned into a magical dick measuring contest.

She props her head up with her fist, letting out a small sigh.

"Trouble in paradise, bookie?" A brown haired girl questions as she flops down next to Levy.

"H-Huh?!" Levy blinks at Cana as the drunk casts her a small smirk, lifting a large barrel of alcohol. "W-What do you mean by that?!"

"Hmmm?" Cana hums. "Oh. I just noticed you and Merlin over there seemed quite close recently."

"T-That's not true!" The blue haired girl protests.

"Oh? So he's available, then?" The drunk smirks, causing the blue haired bookworm to devolve into a bunch of sputtering noises.

Cana gives Levy an impish grin as she continues, unperturbed by Levy's glare.

"I mean, damn. I've seen him around, he's kind of cute... well muscled, nice ass." Cana begins causing Levy to weakly slap at her shoulder.

"P-Pervert!'

"Eh. As long as you're not dating, I might as well take my shot, right? He's a bit crazy though... talking to Laxus like that. But damn. He's said some things I bet a lot of the guild has wanted to say for a looooong time. Heck. He's even putting up a pretty damned good fight."

"He's not taking this even slightly serious... he could be kicked out of the guild and he's playing around." Levy lowly growls.

"Huh?" The drunkard mutters. "He can do better?"

"Easily... I could do better." Levy scoffs, idly wondering how she'd go about this fight.

Lightning Rods, certainly.

Insulating materials as well like rubber.

Maybe a giant rubber mallet?

The speed is quite the issue.

How would she lock Laxus down?

Well, the trick would be getting something faster than Lightning... Light maybe?

The booming thunder eventually clears, revealing Merlin stood there, hand raised up to the sky.

His sleeve has burnt away, but he appears practically unharmed.

He looks down at his hand. "Aww man... I liked this hoodie... oh well, I'll fix it when I get back home."

"I'm done." Laxus states suddenly.

"..."

"Wait. What?" She watches Merlin blink.

Heh. That's actually sort of funny.

"This fight's fuckin pointless. You're not taking this seriously." Laxus scoffs. "Which... admittedly is mildly impressive."

"I've been waiting for you to make me actually try. Besides. You're not taking this seriously either." Merlin shrugs. "But whatever. I guess this is good enough. Don't mistake laziness... for weakness... don't wake sleeping dragons and all that."

"MERLIN FIGHT ME!" Natsu exclaims as he rushes forwards, fist cocked back.

Merlin explodes with golden light, under the effects of the meteor spell he effortlessly sidesteps Natsu's flaming punch.

The white haired wizard blurs slightly as he grasps Natsu's arm.

With a spin that lifts Natsu off the ground he turns and hurls the wizard as hard as he can... Into the lake. "Not right now Natsu."

The sheer speed of the throw has caused him to gain some real distance.

The pink haired dragonslayer lands with a large splash.

The golden aura is erased as he turns and walks away, walking towards the blue haired girl.

"So... that's it?" The brown haired card mage slowly asks beside her, watching as the yellow haired mage disappears with a crack of thunder. "Kind of Anti-climactic."

"But wild that Laxus pussied out like that." She states.

"Don't be like that." Merlin chastises as he approaches. "Don't mock him."

"Are you really the one who should be saying that." Levy questions with a raised eyebrow. "After you antagonized him so much?"

"Oh. Don't get me wrong." Merlin shrugs. "I totally did that, but he was acting like an entitled brat and needed to get knocked down a few pegs."

"So... what?" Cana questions slowly. "Do you respect him now or something?"

"Not yet... I respect the person he could be." Merlin begins slowly. "I think he was coming to realize what I was saying was right... during the fight... he started changing towards the end. Not really being into it as much anymore. I think he was beginning to truly reflect on himself. Ending our fight like that was a peace offering. Neither of us really looked bad, in fact, he probably came out worse for it. We both keep our pride, no harm, no foul."

"Besides." Merlin smirks. "Unresolved conflict drums up media interest. People will be wondering 'oh wow. Who'd win. Who's right. Who's cooler?!' And be quietly begging for us to take the fight to its conclusion.

"Would you win?" Levy asks.

"Oh, fucking obviously. Laxus is a total monster, don't get me wrong. He doesn't even have that one thing unlocked and he'd still probably be able to defeat Natsu even now, But I have Meteor, Takeover, Healing, and I can counter literally every single one of his spells before he casts it. It would be like a nonmagical warrior fighting against a wizard saint. Sure, his body's trained, a rock would shatter if he punched it, but the wizard saint can cast a fireball and devastate half a city or more."

"I'm hearing a little arrogance in there." The blue haired girl points out, causing the white haired mage to pause.

"Well..." He begins quietly. "Huh... should probably get a handle on that. I don't want to be a pompous asshole like Laxus was."

Levy weakly punches his shoulder as he sits next to her. "That was for agreeing to leave the guild if you lost... then treating the entire fight like a joke."

"Yeah... my bad." The teen smiles.

Pov: Returned.

"I mean, I could have very easily used meteor if I wanted. I wasn't in any real danger." I continue as Levy and I walk. At the moment, I'm trying to dissuade her pouting. "You saw how quick I could activate it on Natsu."

"Hmph."

"Come oooon please? Stop pouting! Is there anything you want? Anything at all?"

"Buy me lunch." She all but demands.

"If the book lady wants it, so be it." I roll my eyes.

Honestly, I'm sort of glad that reporter guy fucked off. He was kind of a headache.

Plus, there was the fact that I was constantly worried anything I might say might have ended up in the newspaper.

Will admit. Did lose my head a bit with Laxus, but oh well. Prick needed a wakeup call.

"So. Where to?" I ask.

"The Winter Crown."

"..."

"isn't that like... one of the higher class places in Magnolia?" I ask slowly.

"Mhm."

"Eh. I've got enough money for it. Sure." I shrug. "As long as you don't plan on eating more than Natsu."

"I might. Just to spite you."

"Come now, Levy, no need to eat until you get sick just to punch me in my wallet. I'll admit. I've never been to a place like that, what exactly to they have?"

"Oh, they have an extensive menu. The last time I went I had some lobster. It was really good."

"No wine." I deadpan, causing the girl to pout slightly.

"That's no fun, Merlin."

"Dealing with a clingy giggly drunk you once was enough for a lifetime. I don't want people thinking I'm taking advantage of you." I roll my eyes. "When it's clear that you're the one taking advantage of my cool, kind, awesome, powerful, talented-"

"Punchable."

"Punchable self." I agree with a small grin.

"My my. The definition of humble." She snorts.

"I aim to ple- huh?" I mutter.

Is that-

Holy shit it is...

"What is it?" The girl mutters, following my gaze to a small blue haired girl in a blue and yellow striped dress.

Her hair seems to go to her lower back, there's a large stack of books in her hands as she seems to be heading in the general direction of the train station, shopping bags also weighing on her arms.

"Natsu'd probably want me to ask these questions." I sigh. "Give me a minute."

"Ask what questions?"

"Excuse me!" I call out to the girl causing her to flinch slightly, she turns slightly.

"Y-Yes?"

"You're a Sky Dragon Slayer, right?"

She blinks twice, then shakily nods once. "Y-Yes?"

"Oh. We have a dragon slayer in our guild and he'd probably want me to ask you these questions... did you have a dragon parent? Like, are you a first generation dragon slayer who was taught by an actual dragon or are you one of the ones who got your power through a lacrima or eating the flesh of dragons."

"E-Eating-" she sputters. "Wh- what are you talking about?!"

"Oh, I know quite a bit about dragon slayer magic." I admit. "You're honestly pretty lucky that you seem to have antibodies like Natsu. Otherwise you might have turned into a dragon."

Her eyes are practically swirling from the sudden influx of information.

"Wait- she's a dragon slayer?" Levy mutters.

"Mhm." I nod to the older blue haired girl before turning my attention back to Wendy.

"My name is Merlin, by the way, what's yours?" I ask.

"W-Wendy." She quietly mutters, seeming to be deeply shy. "W-What do you know about dragons! P-Please tell me! G-Grandeeney went missing so long ago."

"July Seventh Seven Seventy Seven?" I question.

"Wh- How- How did you know?!" The girl seems genuinely surprised.

"That's the same day Natsu's disappeared." I admit.

"You know... a dragon slayer as well?" The girl slowly whispers.

"I do." I nod once. "To me, it seems there's something... peculiar about the day your dragons disappeared. "If you'd ever like to talk to him, you can stop by the Fairy Tail guild. He's probably gone today, but the next time you're in Magnolia you should check."

"Is- Is there really something special about that day?" The girl whispers.

"I'm not sure." I shake my head. "It's possible. But to be sure, I'd need to ask the other dragon slayer I know about it."

"Erza wasn't trained by a dragon." Levy points out. "Oh wait- are you referring to HIM?"

"Yep. Gajeel Redfox." I answer Levy as I let out a small sigh, rubbing my temple.

"Which... guild is he a part of?" The smaller girl asks.

"Phantom Lord." I admit quietly. "But if you're planning on going to find him yourself... just don't. Save yourself the time. Phantom lord is bordering on a dark guild. While Fairy Tail would welcome you regardless of the fact that you're in another guild. The average Phantom lord mage would see how young you are, see you as either competition or naive, and either try to exploit you or just try and beat you up."

"Then there's the fact that they have dozens of guild halls across Fiore, you could realistically go to one and Gajeel might not even be there, thus you'd have wasted an entire trip. It's genuinely not worth the effort for that annoying guild. He tried to ignite a guild war with us by destroying our guild hall with a bunch of iron pillars. Not the nicest guy. Nobody in Phantom Lord is."

"Anyways, I hope you have a safe trip back to wherever it is you are going." I wave as I turn and begin to walk away.

"Wait... shouldn't we walk her back to the train station at least?" Levy mutters.

"Levy. She's a dragon slayer... an AIR dragon slayer. She has literally infinite magic power." I slowly observe

Realistically she should have been far stronger than Natsu in the series, but whatever. Let's chalk that up to Natsu's bullshit Etherious E.N.D. Biology.

Levy flinches, seemingly realizing exactly what it means to have a slayer magic that has an easy to obtain source such as 'Water', 'Air' or 'Dirt'.

"Ooooh. Yeah... I see." Levy mutters before casting a glance back to the sky dragon slayer and offering a wave. "Be careful!"

"I-I will!" The girl replies, not being able to respond to the wave as she's got her hands full.

"Man." I mutter. "Thinking on it for a moment, it'd suck being an Earth Dragon Slayer."

"True. Just going around and eating as much dirt as possible." Levy agrees. "I'm sort of struggling to think of a dragon that is worse that would one: actually exist and Two: isn't hopelessly crude."

"Shit dragon roar." I deadpan, causing the girl to let out a long sigh.

"Yes. That. But if there truly was a shit dragon... I bet it has long since either killed itself or been killed." Levy agrees.

"I mean... If we ever come across one... I'm probably going to kill it on like... principal at this point." I agree. "Even if it's a nice guy and all... purely to put it out of its misery."

"You're too nice for that, Merlin." Levy hums. "Now. Stop thinking about gross things. I need to empty your wallet."

~~Linebreak~~

A blue haired girl gazes out the window of a train, trees quickly passing her by. Beside her is a ridiculous stack of books, clothes, and other assorted gifts.

She had just completed a rather large mission that paid her quite well, so she took a trip to the nearest large town in order to buy some things.

What she didn't expect was to be called out to like that...

He knew she was a Sky Dragon Slayer?

How?

She shakes her head.

It doesn't matter.

Fairy Tail has their own Dragon Slayer... one who ALSO had their dragon disappear on July Seventh. Seven-Seven-Seven.

That...

What does it mean?

What was the reason?

Why did Grandeeney leave?

She may have to return to Magnolia in the future... she wants to meet the fire dragon slayer.

Then... maybe she might be able to meet the Iron Dragon Slayer and see if he ALSO had a dragon parent that disappeared...

It's as Carla sometimes says. 'Once is an accident, twice is a coincidence, three times is a pattern.'

The corners of her mouth turn upwards slightly.

Merlin was pretty nice as well. Him and Levy. She'd like to meet them again one day.

*Knock Knock Knock*

I slowly rise from my spot at the kitchen table, walking to the front door.

"Hey Levy, Hey Lucy." I greet. "What is it?"

"I wanted to talk about that... thing with my magic that should help me out?"

"Oh? OH! Shit. My bad, I sort of forgot yesterday, didn't I?" I state, rubbing my face. "Sorry, it was pretty chaotic."

"I'd say." Lucy scoffs, crossing her arms. "Picking a fight with one of Fairy Tail's S Class... that seemed like something Natsu would have done."

"But... I heard what you said... what he said to Mirajane... so... thank you." She whispers, seeming slightly shy.

"Don't worry about it." I wave off with a small grin. "You're a friend. That's more than enough reason for me to fight."

"SO!" I continue as I turn, letting the two inside. "Lucy, on the topic of your magic... I have an offer for you... a little background information first, though. All wizards seem to have an unused portion of their magical container called a 'Second Origin'. I can unlock this part of the container."

"W-Huh?!" The blonde gasps.

"Having your second origin unlocked more than doubles your magical power... plus it allows you to perform spells that ordinarily you might not have originally managed to." Levy smiles. "It's why I'm able to use 'Flak Cannon' and natural disasters."

"Why haven't you unlocked it sooner?!" The spirit mage questions. "I could have been doing SO much more! Jobs would have been easier, and I wouldn't have had to worry about rent this month!"

"The issue is... how this second origin is unlocked." I admit.

"How- How is it unlocked?" Lucy whispers.

"Pain." I answer.

"P-Pain?"

"Would you suffer five hours of torture for a permanent increase to your magical abilities?"

"D-Do I have to?" She questions. "If- If I don't do this... will I never unlock my second origin?"

"Nope. You could probably unlock it on your own, it's just... rather difficult. If I had to guess, Master Makarov has his unlocked. Probably the other wizard saints as well. The way you unlock it seems to be either experience, age, or hellish training. I just have a 'cheat' method that allows you to unlock it in just five hours. Mine took twenty. Natsu and Grey's took ten, Levy's took about seven and a half, and Erza's was five... which is annoying as she was the only person who didn't show even the slightest bit of pain from it."

"H-How painful are we talking here?"

I let out a low hiss, wincing. "For me. It felt like I was being set on fire."

"It's definitely torturous." Levy agrees. "Even if Erza could walk it off and read a book, I was pretty much rendered immobile, all of my willpower being focused on not screaming."

"Hey, you did pretty good... out of everyone I unlocked the second origin of, you're the only person aside from Erza who didn't scream and cry like a little bitch... myself included."

"Can... I have time to think about it?" Lucy eventually decides.

"Oh, sure. Take all the time you need. Your spirits probably know of second origins as well, you can ask them. Or at least some of them might." I wave off.

"If... If I do this... maybe I could summon Vexillum for longer... maybe even in her true form." Lucy whispers under her breath.

She rises to her feet. "I need to go speak to my spirits. I'll come back and give you my decision soon enough."

"Be safe." I wave as she quietly walks to the door.

"You too." The blonde replies as she lets herself out.

Levy and I stare at the closed door for a long moment.

"So. Want to play test some more of the classes?"

"Sure!"

~~Linebreak~~

"Ghost Extermination?" Levy questions as we look over the board.

"Eh... I feel like we should pass on that one, honestly. I don't necessarily have a way to really deal with ghosts. Immaterial bastards."

"Yeah... they're quite hard to pin down." Levy agrees. "And I'm unsure if my new word ideas would work against them?"

"Word ideas?"

"Like... ah... 'Holy' or 'Sanctified.'

I let out a low hum. "It could work. Something like 'Holy Water'."

"What about the guard job."

"Eh... that'll take some time." Levy mutters. "I'm not sure I'm willing to dedicate six days of my time for a million jewel... we could take three or more jobs in that time and make the same... plus it'd probably be less boring."

"Not enough thrill?" I hum.

"Exactly."

I let out a small sigh, shaking my head. "Whatever happened to the shy bookworm that I met those short months ago? Why has she been ruthlessly crushed and replaced by this adrenaline junky?"

"Hey." The girl pouts. "That's not a very nice thing to say."

"But am I wrong?" I question with a small smile.

"Well, no. But still!"

"I never said it was a bad thing." I roll my eyes. "Just wondering where she went."

She pouts for a moment. "Well... where's the guy who used to plot and plan things through?"

"I've been infested with the fairy tail brain-itus. I didn't know how to break this to you, but I'm afraid it's terminal. I bet I don't even have a week until I'm blowing up entire thirds of cities to catch simple muggers." I huff.

She lets out a quiet giggle, covering her mouth with a hand. "Oh... I'll mourn you... I guess."

Now is my turn to begin quietly laughing. "You guess? How cold. It appears Gray isn't the only ice wizard in the guild."

Her finger drifts through the air, with a small flash she's holding a small cube made up of the letters 'I, C, and E'. "I dabble~"

"Heh." I huff. "So. Want to take the bandit request?"

"Eh, sure. In my experience at least one of the group tends to be a wizard, so watch out for that."

"Ah! Merlin my boy!" Makarov calls out. "Come here for a second."

I turn, beginning to walk across the guild hall. "Yes bossman?"

"I called in a favor to someone in order to help figure out your heritage since it means so much to you."

"R-Really?" I blink. "Thanks master!"

"He should be coming some time today. But... this person is incredibly important. I'd like you to remain here. Causing him to wait would be a tremendous insult." The man quietly speaks.

"Who is it?"

"Draculos Hyberion... the second strongest of the ten wizard saints and the most experienced user of blood magic in all of Fiore."

My eyes widen. "S-Seriously?!"

"Yes." The man nods once before knocking back his mug of alcohol. "He owed me a favor for something a few decades ago. Eh. I never really used it, nor really planned on it, so eh, might as well use it for this."

"Alright. I'll let Levy know that I'll be unable to join her today."

I walk over to the blue haired girl who is gazing over the job request, she looks up as I stop beside her. "What did master want?"

"He apparently called in a favor to one of the other wizard saints. They should be here some time today in order to use blood magic to see what they can find out." I admit quietly.

"Oh? OH!" She blinks. "That's wonderful!"

"I'm... honestly a little worried about what he'll find." I admit.

"Don't be." The girl frowns. "Nothing that he finds will make anyone in the guild think any differently of you."

"Yeah..." I mutter quietly. "Alright."

~~Linebreak~~

Levy and I sit in the corner quietly chatting back and forth, just waiting, trying to get my mind off my nervousness.

I pause an ominous presence washing over me as my body stiffens, Levy's eyes seem to widen slightly, a slight shake to her hand.

"He's... here." I whisper under my breath.

A couple of the mages in the guild visibly pause, Erza looks around in confusion, Cana spills some of her barrel-sized mug of alcohol all over her bikini'd chest.

Natsu groans weakly from the floor where Erza had lain him flat again.

I'm unsure if he noticed. It's just worthy of note that Erza beat the shit out of him again.

A swarm of bats flows through the front door, coalescing into the form of a man right in front of Makarov.

I slowly rise to my feet and begin making my way over.

"Makarov." The man greets, he has pointed ears, blood red eyes, a mustache that frames is top lip, and a red mark over his left eye that looks similar to a cross.

"Draculos... it has been a while." Makarov smiles wistfully.

"It has." The vampiric-like wizard nods slowly. "Far too long."

"Would you care for some milk?" Makarov questions, causing me to blink in confusion and nearly miss a step.

"Ah! of course!" The man nods once, taking a glass from the countertop. "I wish I had some cake to go along with this... that lovely bakery is still open, right?"

"It is." Makarov slowly nods.

"Ah... I'll grab me a few cakes on my way out." The vampiric mage smiles.

I...

Guess he likes milk?

Whatever.

Mages are allowed to be eccentric.

At least he's not that arrogant guy who calls himself a 'god'.

"So... where is that boy you spoke to me about?" The man questions.

"Hello, Sir. My name is Merlin Ambrosius." I greet, bowing my head slightly. "It's a pleasure to meet you. Thank you for coming all this way."

He turns as I approach, cocking his head to the side, his gaze narrows briefly. "Ah. I see. That's slightly worrisome. I can see why you'd want to know. Come come. And think nothing of it. This is a favor to Makarov."

He turns, being led by Makarov into his office as I follow along.

He takes a seat, placing his glass of milk aside.

He waves his hands briefly a complex magic circle appearing.

"This spell here..." He begins quietly. "Is called lignum vitae. It is quite the complex blood magic spell and an advanced form of the spell Blood Biography which is a type of psychometry spell for blood, allowing me to tell how it was originally shed, the gender of the creature it came from, the age, and more. This variant,  however, determines the next of kin of up to two generations. Both ancestors and descendant... from grandparents to grandchildren but I assume we won't have to worry about the latter for now, hm?"

"No. Not yet." I shake my head.

"May I see you hand."

I offer my hand to the wizard.

There's a slight pinprick as a single drop of blood spews from my fingertip. My body heals moments later.

"An... impressive healing factor." The man notes as I watch the blood flatten out into a string that comes between his hands.

He stretches it out, adding it to the circle.

"This spell does have its limits, I'm afraid. It will only show you the information that is known to you and those nearby. Now, this information doesn't have to be at the forefront of your mind. Say for instance if you saw your mother once as a baby and it has lingered in your subconscious, it will show her image, but not her name. Considering both Makarov and myself are quite aged... there's a fair chance that we will know who your ancestors are."

With a dull flash, numerous floating images appear around the mage. Little red strings connecting a portrait of myself to others.

"Oh... that's not good." Draculos speaks quietly.

"Wh- b- but how?!" Makarov stutters. "She- She died! How does she have a child?!"

My gaze slowly strays upwards towards a thin line connecting a black haired man to the side, showing a sibling relationship.

"Is... Is that Natsu?"

Comments

It's kinda dumb and disrespectful, a favour is replayed by a favour

Mozuto

I'm kinda surprised Merlin didn't request that they use the blood magic on Erza too to try and find out about her mom but my knowledge on the main series is a bit lacking so maybe there's a reason they can't that I don't remember. Either way, another great chapter 👍

D

With you on this one. Going into it expecting a fight really made this flop. Made very little sense. Lots of tell instead of show too with Laxus' supposed change.

Grafian

Enjoyed the chapter but did not really like the first part of it. Kind of weird and anti climactic on how the fight vs Laxus ended and it was kind of off character for your OC to be that arrogant, bragging how easy it would be to kick Laxus' ass, and self assured that "Laxus had a epiphany/change of heart at the end" so confidently which I hope bites him in the ass later because at the same time you have him "humble" and admit to his mistakes/if he's wrong. (It's like you de-aged Dumbledore without changing his personality so he comes off as a pompous asshole like you mentioned he's trying to avoid) You need to pick what way your character is going to align because again it's a mess or he's coming off as bipolar, you had him fleshed out pretty well in the first couple of chapters, not too much characteristics shown due to him semi simping for his blue haired bookworm but towards the climax of this and last chapter, he's kind of coming off as a know-it-all dick while everyone ignores his behavior since it's fairy tail. Levy isn't going to really call him out on it since she has a crush on him, her lack if self esteem and kindness also won't address the issue, sure she pointed it out towards the end, but you had your OC casually admit it and also changed the subject which is classic narcissist move.

As always this is just really interesting and I can't wait for more

Natsu is Zeref's brother, Zeref's full name is Zeref Dragneel, he got cursed due to Natsu dying and creating the R-System (R standing for resurrection) that he used to revive Natsu resulting in him wiping out his own empire in the past as Ankhsaram is a little jelly bitch who hates anyone touching his domains, probably from fear of them being better at them than he is.
