Also consider this, Endy: Renard was prepared to overcome his own prejudices and sacrifice his own life force to keep you, who embodies everything he despises about arcanery, alive for the greater good. His own stated reasoning was his honour would not permit him to expect anything from anyone that he wouldn't commit to himself. Now this jumped-up little squit suddenly waltzes in with his own stolen arcanery, and fucks around with reality in a way that not only nullifies Renard's act of sacrifice, it made it completely pointless and redundant, and renders his honour and gesture in doing so utterly meaningless. 'Curing' his self-induced stroke only serves to rub salt in the wound. How do you THINK he was going to take that?
