For my higher tier patrons: I have not forgotten about your June sketches. I just have not yet found time to do them. Hopefully soon.
I've recently been trying to manage my time better, but after going over what I do, I've found that I work 80hrs a week. I spent about 40hrs a week doing Kaerwyn stuff (Comic and RP). And the other 40 hrs is on Custom/Individual stuff (Such as commissions).
I realized that by offering things that only a few people can enjoy, I cannot offer things that more people can enjoy. I need to find a way to keep myself afloat, but at the same time offer stuff that everyone can enjoy and not just the individual.
Obviously if you have any suggestions for this, I'm all ears.
My thoughts on how to do this:
1. Stop doing custom based rewards. I spend so much time on this, and I even have difficulty finding time on this. I can still do things like give discounts for individuals, but the actual work just as a reward is a time destroyer for me.
2. If I move away from the individual/custom stuff, I can go back to working on things like Wallpapers and Posters. This means more of my patrons, regardless of tier, can enjoy them. But for my higher tier guys, I can actually print these out and send you signed copies. I may also be able to individually print out your commissions, and send you signed copies of those as well. Right now I'm looking into seeing what would work best for me, getting a printer or hiring a printer service. I will likely go with the printer service to start (Which means I can't do individual commission prints) and if that is popular enough, then I can look into getting my own printer - and printing out your commissions.
3. I have gotten the suggestion that I could upload commissions here that I have not posted yet. Would you guys be interested in seeing them?
Lastly: This is July 4th week in the US. July 4th will disrupt my schedule in some fashion. I might end up sketching all three of this week's comics at the same time which might mean you won't get them early tomorrow. The rest of the week shouldn't be impacted though.
Please let me know if you have any ideas for rewards that more people can enjoy that doesn't take a lot of time.

It's been my experience that printing isn't a good source of regular income. It has a high upfront cost, and very low returns since most of the money goes right back into the printing. Maybe if Kaerwyn were super popular, it would work. But it's not.

2018-07-03 15:34:29 +0000 UTCQuite the conundrum. While I can appreciate the need to cater to the masses, reducing the custom rewards for the higher tiers could cause problems in its own right. In my circumstance in particular, I don't have the available space for physical copies of works, so anything I get would likely end up on a shelf somewhere to collect dust. To that end, it would make more sense for me to reduce my pledge to a lower tier to make the most of what I could get while minimizing my expenses. If others share the same predicament, it might take a chunk from your income. That said, I don't mind having anything I commissioned posted here for everyone to enjoy, I could totally see that being a thing. And I'm not sure if you have considered this as a possibility, but what if you made and sold physical copies of the RoK comic? It should provide some financial relief with minimal effort to free up time for personal or custom projects. I know a few other webcomic artists I watch do so. If you want, I could look up their information for you if you have questions.
