This is actually a really useful tactic to use in situations like that! I’ll keep this one in mind, if I ever end up in a similar situation lol.

I thought the way he handled it was perfect. If he'd said things like 'the restaurants cameras have already seen you' it would have made the predator panic and get potentially angry/frustrated/violent. By focusing on the car, he made an intense situation seem almost humdrum, which served as a clever distraction and deescalated things. I think Zach was incredibly quick-thinking and smart in this situation.

I pulled out my phone to record somebody because we were in an altercation where they were escalating the situation as I was trying to deescalate the situation. He tried to grab my phone and I told him that it’s a live stream so it doesn’t matter. He ran away lol.

I am commenting as I'm going through this lol, I also wanted to add that bystander affect is SO REAL IT'S INSANE. I got my last martial art instructor because I yelled at a guy abusing his step kid while no one did anything. He decided he liked that and wanted to teach me. I am a bit unhinged though, so maybe the right thing to do is stay out of it. I will say that one time me and my friend were practicing weapon fighting in the dark at an abandoned building one time and this dude came out of no where and yelled "WOAH WOAH WOAH WOAH!!!" and got between us lol

Woah dude, you're smart. I've been in some rough situations in my life and worked security in some pressured situations. The big difference here is that I live in canada, and I don't even think about guns in the way you do. I do think however, for a different reason, think you may want to consider another person. Not for self defense, but I noticed that when you were trying to reason with this predator you repeated the same logic over and over. I found in security, persuasion works better and I know adrenaline is pumping in an assault situation but I think another person who was good at persuasion and talking people into things would have been helpful in that situation. (I mean, you kind of do the opposite, you wait and mirror predators until they talk themselves into a trap they made for themselves) So you could have said things like "Deleting the footage wouldn't do anything anyway, I already have the chats." because his focus was entirely on deleting the footage. He's tunnel visioned at that moment, so you have to find other ways to continuous diminishing the value of the camera (which you were doing by telling him there was an error, I mean to say giving another reason would have helped you with leverage) You may have said this though, so if you did and that didn't work, I would have said things like "the cameras at the restaurant have seen you come in." and "I don't want you to make this situation worse for yourself." It's hard to find a mofo that's down to be ride or die. I get it 100%, I prefer to work alone. The wrong person would make this way worse. You would need the right person that works in alignment with you and helps you with your weaknesses. I admire how you are able to stay calm with these guys. In work, I deescalate conflict because I don't trust the companies I have worked for to cover my ass if I lay the smack down nor to cover my injuries if I get over powered. However, something so personal like this I would find the self control difficult. Your emotional control is admirable! Thanks for the content.

Another way look at it when he took your property and you leaned in the window to get it back He could have hit the gas like he did but your car stopped him If your car not there he could have took off fast with you hanging in the window You was not hurt badly thankfully but if it was not for your car things might have been worse for you Remember when you fall off your bicycle .Falling from a speeding car is probably worse You can re new your car you canot re new your life
