With this information alone, it is easy to judge him as a sexual predator. However, things change when we find out the girl lied about her age and there was no criminal intent.

I am not sure I agree. If a girl lies she is lying. I remember being 14/15/16 I knew, and you knew that lying is wrong. Period. If they are trying to trick and lie, and the man doesn't know, and it can be proven they did not know, then there is no criminal intent. That is like saying a 14 year old who murders someone can't be held accountable for the crime. Of course they can.

A minor is protected by the law because they are not able to weigh the consequences of their actions when 'consenting' to having sex with an adult. In the same vein, they cannot be held accountable for misleading the adult. With adulthood comes the responsibility of exercising a duty of care when engaging in activities that have the potential of weighty consequences. This only emphasizes the tragedy of contemporary mores and values.

2021-10-17 19:33:10 +0000 UTCthis happens more often than you might think, please always remember if you are having a one night stand with someone that you don't know, ask them to show ID, if they won't then it's probably best to assume they have lied about their age, many 14-17 year olds could pass for adults with just a bit of makeup.

The age difference isn't just a number.. there are different maturity levels etc. It was very common for girls to date up to 4 years older. Freshman girls would date senior guys all the time. I think this case is ridiculous. He's not a sex offender and the judge is making a determination based on his own beliefs. One night stands have been happening since the beginning of time. Way before the internet, in parks at night, in cars anywhere, in a tent while camping. Come on!

I, also, don’t believe charges should be held against the girl ONLY because she came clean and told the truth and spoke up during Zack’s court proceedings. Had she continued to be deceptive, I do think action to teach her that this is unacceptable behavior and can really ruin people. Some community service may be warranted to really sink the point in if she didn’t seem to be getting it.

This girl I was talking to when I was 21 or so she was telling me she was 19 the day we were supposed to meet up I was curious and found her Facebook. Turns out one of the pictures on there was from her 14th birthday and it was recent. I told her off pretty bad in text she never talked to me again. Now I wonder if she ever did that again or how common this is.. This was one of those myspace style dating apps

She stated that she feels bad for what she caused and doesn’t want him to be punished, but the kid now is on the registry for 25 years. Though she is young, you can’t blame this on being naive because she went out of her way to lie and ruin this kids life.

Sorry but as a woman and a mother of a daughter if a young girl intentionally lies to be with some older man then whatever happens good or bad is her fault. If shes grown enough to lie and get a fake ID etc shes smart enough to know right from wrong. Saying someone cant be held accountable bc they are a minor is silly. A lot of work and planning goes into sneaking out and lying about your age etc

Girls could give a fake ID so thats not even a fool proof plan to avoid jail. I know there are legitimate victims of SA but there is also an uptick in women getting revenge and ruining mens lives so they can get 15 mins of fame. Lets look at Marilyn Manson. That ERW claimed he groomed her. He met her when she was 19. She wasnt underage. I dont think she understands what grooming means . She dated a guy who does and says crazy shit and cuts himself onstage. Like... she knew what she was signing up for. Even after he made a joke about bashing her head in they dated and got engaged. Now suddenly decades later she wants to play victim. She wasnt groomed. Saying there was a power imbalance isnt fair either- she sought him out knowing hes a celebrity. She can accuse him of doing anything and the media will believe it so does he actually have the power or her? He was with and married Dita and she said she was never abused or SA. So he didnt suddenly go off the rails and become a different person all the sudden. ERW accused him of hating jews... yet when Manson said he has photos of her dressed like Hitler she said she would sue him for showing them to the media bc she was "underage" in those photos. no she wasnt she was 19 or 20...so she gets to run around and accuse him of terrible things and if he fights back and exposes her she will twist it around. This guy had his pick of any goth chick he wanted, he didnt groom her when she was underage and there are so many stories like this now its unreal. I couldnt imagine being a man and dating. If you even hookup with someone she could say she was drunk and you raped her etc and you couldnt do anything about it. Your life would be ruined. Girls have actually gotten fake ids so they seem to be of legal age. If you meet a girl in a 21+ bar you assume shes 21 because she had to show id at the door right? Its entrapment!!

As frustrating as it is there probably should be protection (to a limit) for girls coming forward that way more would be likely to come forward bringing justice to those wrongly judged or accused. As frustrating as it is let’s face it. Even if she was held accountable…as a minor there’s only so much you can even do.

2021-08-26 06:21:06 +0000 UTCI have a friend of 20+ years and during his college days he encountered the same situation where someone claimed to be a certain age ( Friend was 20 at the time, the one they were talking to claimed to be 18.), and in the end, got reported by the parents. He didn't verify it like Zach unfortunately, it's been a long time now and he was forced to live pretty far off in pretty dire living situation compared to Zach here - although I will say he was allowed to use a computer and phone and have internet for a time being as they decided to take away his internet privileges for a few years at one point - but truth be told he minded his own business and he was genuinely a pretty awesome guy to hang around and it sucked because he graduated with a bachelors only to have it basically sit on his wall and forced him to only do freelance work online helping with web development as nobody would give him a chance locally.

Then still treated like this kid was afterwards, I would (and this is a harsh statement) probably end up offing myself. If he has any mental health issues, and isn't seeking help, he needs to be now. There is a very high chance of him developing some sort of mental illness over the years now. Time will only make this situation harder and harder, for this guy to understand. He's going to either fight to get his rights back, or just give up (which is what looks like already happened). I wish the best of luck for this kid.

Especially because it's so normal for kids to lie about their ages online, he's either REALLY dumb and unaware, or he knew she was pretty young. If you're doing something shady like having sex with a stranger at a playground you need to do your due diligence

I see it happen while I was in high school; and this day of modern internet, girls are starting to look and act more adult than what they are (clothing,makeup,etc.). Even if a the minor went after an adult, the adult still has the responsibility to check who they’re talking to when pursuing a younger person.
