The truth is there is no real answer. If we somehow miraculously learn that they are born with it, then that would make me really sad. It would mean all these "exposed" videos were targetting victims that couldn't change their condition, even if they know it's bad. I highly doubt that though. I am a firm believer in our brains being molded rather than being "born" with a persona that you were destined to have.

But just because they’re born that way doesn’t make it “normal”. I also strongly believe you cannot rehabilitate them. It’s like trying to teach me not be a gay woman. I can be taught and go through a million courses/programmes etc. I am gay, and deep down it will ALWAYS be that way. We cannot change pedophiles - what they do is disgusting and they know it’s disgusting themselves. But they still choose to act on it. It’s a real problem because seriously, how do we stop them taking advantage of children?

You can be born gay but you can be taught to gay if that’s something you’ve been taught to be a good thing. A lot of modern parents are doing this. A lot of kids who would have never been “trans” are becoming it because their parents are pushing it on them. Society also dictates what’s attractive so that’s taught also. It’s both

2022-07-12 17:08:26 +0000 UTCThe general consensus in the scientific community is that it is a mixture of both. But it's important to draw a line between pedophillia and child molestation. Statistically it is pretty clear if you are predisposed to pedophillia and you are then molested you are more likely to offend than someone who is predisposed to pedophillia and who is not molested. But most people who are molested don't commit child sex offences because they were not predisposed to the condition. Saying being molested makes you a child sex offender is a lot like saying smoking weed makes you schizophrenic. It's completely true to say that if you are predisposed genetically to schizophrenia and you smoke weed you may well develop the illness, yet there are millions of people who smoke weed who don't get the illness because they are not genetically predisposed to it. And the guy's counter to this is pretty moronic, sure you can go off american statistics where we know there's such a strong male victim stigma and no trust when it comes to anonymous surveys and get some ridiculous inaccurate result, or you could look at world wide studies that show that boys are just as likely to be molested as girls, if not more likely in certain countries. So the question is how do we know that there is a genetic predisposition? Well pedophiles are far more likely to be left handed and short, left handedness doesnt cause pedophillia but it indicates that the genetic development of predisposition to pedophillia happens in the second trimester, as thats when handedness is decided. What about a pedophiles brain is different to a normal persons? Well the most concrete study shows that there are anomalies in their grey matter, whether they have offended or not. What else causes grey matter anomalies? autism and PTSD. Both illnesses have always been heavily linked with pedophillia and the neurological research is only now backing up that suspicion and statistic correlation.

I almost think of it as a mental retardation when they're born with it (sorry if you're offended) and when they're made to be a pedophile....let's say they've been molested their whole life and we're always taught it's normal at a young age and never knew any different then they grow up thinking it's normal to molest children as an adult.

2022-07-11 20:59:14 +0000 UTCIm sympathetic to that, but the nature vs nurture debate in psychology has never truly been settled. There have been some examples of identical twins who were separated at birth and yet wound up leading insanely similar lives - taking the same career path, marrying similar looking wives, same pets. I have a feeling that its a split where some are born while others' life experiences lead them on a bad path. I even think that a lot of them are developmentally stunted and have a difficult time forming bonds with people their own age. I think the water's super murky here!

So- if I think about this guy and start to put thoughts behind him- aka- he is sweet, he is protective, he has a cute smile-ect.. he will start to become attractive to me. Then when I see people who look similar to that guy- I will start thinking they are attractive. I feel it all has to do with your thinking. Same goes for lgbtq. The difference with lgbtq is that it is consensual. Kids have no choice and if they did have a choice their brains are not developed enough to make a clear choice. <- if that makes any sense at all. We all have the choice on what we are thinking and we all have the choice on how to act. To say people are born the way they are is giving them a pass for their behavior and thoughts when in reality we are in control of our thoughts and behaviors. Pick a color you normally do not care for... and fixate on it- think about what could make the color flattering... and start telling yourself it is your favorite color... eventually it will be something you're attracted to. Just saying. We hold power and to give that to someone else is a disservice.

It led to a conversation on whether or not there was a "rape" gene as well, which is scary to think about. Rats in particular (but also dogs and other domesticated animals) are bred specifically for certain traits that are inherited from their parents. Serious rat breeders will evaluate whether a rat is aggressive or highly anxious (which are more likely to bite, and rats have significant bite strength that can cause permanent nerve damage which obviously does not make for good pets). Aggressive rats have proven to produce aggressive offspring. Intentional and careful breeding can lead to more gentle, intelligent, affectionate rats which are considered to be more desirable as pets. I cannot possibly rule out that there is no genetic component to temperament, aggression, etc. in humans. We're mammals like any other. As with all childhood development, there will always be a nature and nurture component to what makes us, us.

2022-07-11 16:47:44 +0000 UTCThe only people I kind of feel bad for are those who’ve been stuck in a cycle. If there’s generational, familial abuse, it’s extremely difficult (at least retrospectively statistically) to break that cycle. I’m not certified to speak on the details but the repeated trauma at that young age has to make some permanent changes to the brain structure and overall the development. And yet, this still leads to the ultimate truth that it can’t really be helped. Those with these desires cannot be in society with potential victims or images of potential victims. They WILL take advantage if the advantage is given.

I can see a gene driving desires toward younger mates in general, but that wouldn’t supersede moral choice or personal choice. I am of the belief that literally no one is entitled to sex, and I don’t understand how anyone can feel they need it enough that they’d force it on someone else or take it from someone who doesn’t understand. If they’re of that belief or capacity, it doesn’t concern me if it’s genetic or whatever. They’re too dangerous to exist
