"Aelfi... we all know how you feel aboutcher ma... you don't gotta-" "Hersh it, Bobby Junior..." Says Aelfig, interrupting the Doberman despite her softer tone. She feels very distant now that she has to go through with this, and she's only two steps from actually leaving. The bag in her hands jostles slightly from minute bodily movement. "I... I know... all the villagers 'd be more than happy to have me stay with y'all." she says, shaking her head. "But right now... this little corner's got one too many memories attached to it." Deputy Whitlock casts his gaze to the ground and rubs the back of his neck. "Do you know where you're goin' at least?" "No." Yes. She did know where. Up to the source some 58 miles upriver. But she couldn't tell anyone that. ... Especially someone like Bobby, who'd be better off chasin some other girl. "It'd be somewhere pretty far off... really I'll be pickin a way and followin it for a long while..." Bobby takes off his hat and holds it plaintively in both hands. "Will I ever see you again?" "I don't think so, Bobby..." Aelfi says, looking away. At that moment, the Doberman plucks up what courage he has and takes a step forward. (Aaand what happens next will be revealed next month :3)
