Yesterday I visited the Baha'i Gardens in Haifa, one of the most sacred sites for Baha'is. This is a relatively recent monotheistic religion with around 6 million adherents worldwide. You are looking at the Shrine of the Bab, the tomb of Siyyid Ali Muhammad Shirazi who inspired the founder of the Baha'i faith. The experience visiting this site was a little surreal. The gardens were almost completely empty except for a few gardeners. The tour guides were non-Baha'i Israeli citizens, which I found a little odd (but I did notice a few Baha'i volunteers interacting with tourists too). I didn't notice anyone performing any religious ceremonies or rituals. Nor did I see any designated space where religious rituals might be conducted. The tour guides told me that the space is used almost exclusively for quiet meditation. This is in stark contrast with my experience visiting the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the Western Wall, and the Dome of the Rock...all of which are very busy with religious adherents on a daily basis.
I'll be adding Baha'i to my list of future videos and will use some of the footage from this trip. Feel free to ask any questions you might have about my visit there!
