Story of the name

Battle for Luvia: Armored Romance started as “Bound for Glory” on my head. During two months of development the name was in my head but I refused to name marketing pictures with any name, as the nature of trademarks is tricky, and I’d like to better be sure of the naming I was to use. (Also, until very close to release I never actively advertised the game, I preferred to just let people check it for themselves). Same way, never published a marketing picture in the end.

Subtitles like “Battle for the Duchy” or something about the “Duchess”, came to mind. When time had come to register the game on Steam, I began my research for the perfect game name. It resulted that Bound for Glory was not a good name for Search Engines. There is an event called that way that will always pop up first in google, so even Bound for Glory was a good name for Patrik’s journey, it needed to change.

After doing some research, and seeing that using a particular name was better for players to find my game (Luvia, the duchy, in this case), And also, double part names were good for visibility, I started thinking in a change of name; so I just change Bound for Glory to Bound to Glory (meaning the same, but I never quite like it), and adding the subtitle. Then It was, for several months of developing, Bound to Glory: Battle for Luvia.

But one day, making a scene, Patrik and Alana raging in passion and drunkenness, “Armored Romance” struck me light a thunder.

I found a true subtitle for the game. Taking in consideration that Bound to glory doesn’t mean really anything, and both “Battle for Luvia” and “Armored Romance” have real meaning, we had a name: With Battle for Luvia we have the overall theme of the game, and a custom and important name of the game’s lore, and with Armored Romance we have the subplot theme for the game, love and passion in the middle ages. Also, being Dune a big source of inspiration about the mix of genres in play, and the name Dune II: Battle for Arrakis greatly deep in my heart, it felt right.
