A New Era for OC ReMix! 501c3 Status Achieved + FINAL MEGA ALBUM UPDATE!

Yes, it’s been (way) too long; Larry & I have both been juggling parenthood and full-time jobs to the best of our abilities, and OCR has been posting amazing mixes & releasing great albums, but we’ve been quiet here on Patreon, and we apologize for that.

We are extremely thankful for your support, and we FINALLY have some exciting news to share. First off, the TL;DR version:

  1. THE GREAT NEWS: OC ReMix is now officially a project of a newly-created 501c3 non-profit organization: Game Music Initiative, Inc (http://gamemusic.org)
  2. THE GOOD NEWS: We’ve got a TON of album codes for $5+ backers to make up for the missed months! Separate post forthcoming!
  3. THE BAD NEWS: We can no longer commit to free albums every month due to tax/accounting restrictions, BUT...
  4. For everyone in the USA, all donations from here on out are tax deductible as charitable contributions!!
  5. New collection torrent for Q3 2017 is ready, and YOU get advance access!
  6. Check out the artwork for our upcoming album, Secret of Mana: Resonance of the Pure Land!!

We’ve wanted to make OC ReMix a 501c3 for years, and YOU’VE made that possible - Game Music Initiative not only makes our not-for-profit status official, legal, & binding, but it also ensures continued ownership and non-profit status for as long as OC ReMix exists - it can’t be sold, it can’t be repackaged into something commercial, and if all our staff die in a horrible golf cart accident, the funds & assets HAVE to be diverted into another non-profit organization with a similar mission.

The short version of all that is that we’ve set up a structure that makes OC ReMix more legitimate, less dependent on any one person, and guaranteed to operate non-commercially... 4EVA.

We regret that we can’t do the free albums any longer, but it complicates the non-profit status and makes accounting very difficult. We know that’s been a big feature/benefit of our Patreon for many of you, and we hope the tax deductibility helps make up for its loss AND encourages you to recommend supporting our Patreon efforts to others. We will also be brainstorming other benefits/perks we can offer that aren’t attached to a dollar value, so stay tuned & thanks for your continued support!

Also, at OverClocked Records, there’s a brand-new Nintendo tribute album from the SoCal area’s 8-Bit Jazz Heroes!

Featuring 10 laid-back jazz renditions of several classic Nintendo themes arranged for guitar and upright bass, Adam Bellotto and Robby Delosier arrive at OC Records with the goal of giving good vibes and helping listeners unwind.

Press Start's ten pieces pull from fan-favorite Nintendo games including Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario 64, The Legend of Zelda, The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time, Metroid, and the Game Boy staple Tetris!

I'm so happy you guys have achieved this goal, I saw it on there when I first pledged support and I SO wanted that to happen! Game music is so important in my life and I'm so happy with what you all do. I have no intention to stop supporting now, but yayyyyyy for this goal!!!!!!!

As another non-US-citizen (as I'm sure a huge number of your userbase will be) I'm also pretty disappointed by the news. There really doesn't seem to be much of a positive here. We also weren't getting album codes, updates or even just responses on here to find out what was happening for a long time (last album update was almost a year ago back in February) so I eventually stopped pledging for the album tier as it wasn't being fulfilled. While it's great people that stuck around for the entire eight months can get their hands on the albums as an apology, none of us that eventually gave up and moved tiers can. Still, congratulations with the non-profit status.

Well, the biggest advantage is always going to be that you're making OverClocked ReMix itself possible; that does benefit EVERYONE, not just our patrons, and we realize that, and we're brainstorming ideas for benefits that would work with our new 501c3 status. Open to suggestions, too!

OverClocked ReMix

Oh wow, that is some big news. As a non-US-citizen I am not sure what to think about this. To be honest I dont have any benefits (more like big disadvantages) from that so I will think about my support.
