the future of flying saucer video

Hey everyone! I wanted to make a post about some stuff going on behind the scenes of this project. This is a difficult post to write, and it will be a little vague and nonspecifc, but given that I'm lucky enough to have this page be half of my income (equal to my retail job!!) thanks to your incredible support, I thought you all deserved an update as this will effect things going forward.

To make a long story short, since january of this year, Flying Saucer Video has been signed to be published with Silver Sprocket. As of this week, pending some final paperwork, I'm being released from my contract. There's a veriety of reasons for this, some of which I'm not qualified to talk about, but rest assured this was my own decision and mainly has to do with the layoffs and departures of the amazing team I've been working with. Every former worker at Silver Sprocket deserves your endless support, but I want to link here the people who are currently looking for support or job opportunities:

My incredible editor Ari, who's made Flying Saucer Video what it is and will be looking for new opportunities this summer: https://bsky.app/profile/ariyarwood.bsky.social/post/3lo7hzmelds2m

Joan, who supported me every step of the way and deserves direct financial support: https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-joan-after-silver-sprocket-layoff

Simon, Maloney and Jack, the amazing shop workers who made matchmaker such a success: https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-sarah-simon-and-jack-after-layoffs (this gofundme is now closed, but the page has info and links on how to support them)

There are other core members of the team who've been laid off or are leaving, but I won't share here until they post publicly. This team was made up of some of the best people working in comics, and that's why I brought this project to them originally. Matchmaker will still be published with sprocket, but with that team gone I didn’t want something so early in development to be moved to an entirely new team. I know some people will be dissapointed to hear this book you just now found out about isn't happening, but I hope you can trust that this was the right choice.

As for the future of the project, I know I'm famous for abandoning new ideas. This won't be one of them. Part of working on this as a future book release is that I worked closely with my editor on the entire project, start to finish, and have a final outline and detailed plans for the entire story that I'm so so proud of. Huge shoutout to Ari for this, working with her has always been the highlight of my career and I wouldn’t be so excited about the rest of this comic if not for her editorial genius!! This comic is the hardest I've ever worked on anything, and I'm so excited to get back to work despite this change!

That said, this has been an incredibly stressful month. I've gotten very little sleep and have made some incredibly hard choices. I'm going to be posting something this month, because frankly the future and my carreer are very uncertain right now and I need the support, but I'll be taking some time off from flying saucer video to recalibrate and adjust to working on it as a fully independant project.

Sorry for the serious, wordy and kinda vague post, but I appreciate you reading and thank you as always for reading and supporting me💜

Oh gosh, good luck to the whole team in finding new work!! I love having a physical copy of Matchmaker, and one day I hope I’ll be able to put Flying Saucer Video next to it :3

Jetstream Jackie wants you to know that her cat Goggles is both fluffy and gay

I know this must have been a difficult choice to make, but I understand. I'm going to support you no matter what; I love your comics, and in whatever form Flying Saucer Video is published (even if only online!), I'll be there for sure! ^^
