I think the idea with a "Nora" is they are only used for the "dirty" jobs like killing innocent people or any life for that matter. If you think of the sword as being conscious of everything it goes through, there are just some jobs too bad or messy that you wouldn't emotionally want to scar your teammate with. Using a "dirty rag" to clean something really nasty would probably be a way of explaining it, too.
