Welcome to my first real Patreon post! I am so excited to share this on here before it's scanned & ready for my shop, and without spreading myself thin posting WIPs all over social media. So refreshing to put it all neatly in one post.
I attached the reference I used for this painting. It is a rainy photo I took in downtown Montreal walking around after an appointment. It probably looks like night time, but to my memory - this is mid-afternoon in December. Montreal tends to be dark all winter. There's nothing spectacular about the particular location, however the lighting is what captured my attention.
Can you use this art references for your own painting? ✔️
The WIP photos show how I built up the painting on the Yupo paper. This is a very dense and slow painting - every layer had to dry very thoroughly and be carefully painted over so it doesn't lift off the paper.
Once I scan this, I will have to give it a coat of varnish. Yupo paper means the watercolor can come off at any moment.
I think this couldn't be a more perfect subject for a paper that makes everything look moist.
