In the winter, I started a series about liminal spaces. I did a couple, and then I penciled this one...and then my energy left me completely. To be quite honest, I lost any inspiration to continue doing art at all and making a Patreon has really helped me feel like I'm not just treading water.

Pencil sketch.

This one was too technical to paint on an empty head, so it sat on the ground for a few months while I did other pictures and other things. This image is loosely based on this Instagram find. I changed most of the elements of the room and kept the amazing wall decor... https://www.instagram.com/p/CHqg1_3JyvK/

This picture is inspired by those old school waiting rooms you spend too many hours in. I spent a lot of time in those as a kid, and I always remembered the wood mazes.

Masking removed.
I never understood them because they seemed so easy...you could solve it by just looking at it and young kids seemed too young to play with them. I guess it was just entertainment for energetic kids that can't sit still. Still, where do they come from? Who made these? For me, these thick, saucy tertiary colors, dim light, and those mazes create a liminal memory of many days in hospital going for check-ups for osteoarthritis.

Future inspo? Thoughts?
Before this composition, I tried an alternate where I just did the wood maze by itself...but it's the full context that gives it the right feels. I may do another one since image search led me to a kind of creepy wood maze resembling a face.

Enjoy the final image in a higher res. format (see main image). I usually don't upload bigger images to public spaces because I am too concerned with print knockoffs, so I guess another Patreon perk!
