MEETING MY PARTNER

How would you describe the moment, when you met your partner? Would you say that it was romantic? Or… how did you get to know your partner? I guess that most of the people were asked out and there it happened… But it wasn´t my case. I met my partner during the Halloween party and you just wouldn´t believe how it happened. My name is Paul and here it is… here is my story of how I met my partner.

It was Halloween time and I wasn´t a particular fan of Halloween. I was a young shy man and it was always too many people everywhere during this time. I would be rather somewhere in the countryside alone… but I was a college student so it was impossible to be alone on Halloween. Especially when you are a college student. I was studying social care and most of my schoolmates were girls. But after one year of college, I got used to it and I was quite okay with it. And on the contrary… I was glad about it because girls are a lot more sensitive and more emphatic than men and it suited me definitely more than the harsh man attitude. Well… some of you may say that I am too soft… but I guess that I really am. I am a vulnerable person like everybody here and I don´t pretend anything… I don´t have to pretend that I lack feelings… Everybody has them and some of us are just hiding them.

Well… the main things about Halloween are costumes. Of course… Everybody has a costume and everybody thinks that it has to be the best costume. Except for me… I didn´t care about a costume at all and I wasn´t planning to get dressed in one. And one day before Halloween… it all started…

I came from the college to my dorm room. I shared my room with two girls, Julia and Kate. They were really nice and sweet girls and I was happy to be their friend and roommate. And they were really nice to me and they understood that I am a shy person. BUT… when Halloween came… it was all different. They all felt that they have to accompany me because they thought that it would be rude to leave me alone at the dorm on Halloween day. But they even can´t imagine that I would be quite happy if they would leave me just here and go to enjoy their Halloween party. I would be happy to be alone here in my dorm room. I would just watch TV and that would be probably the most enjoyable Halloween for me.

So when I came to my room, I was quite tired and I immediately went to the living room where I just crashed on the sofa and I fell asleep. I was quite tired and I would sleep probably several hours if a very loud noise wouldn´t wake me up.

“Hello there!” I just heard the voice of my roommate Julia. She was standing right next to the sofa where I was sleeping.

“Ehm… Hello…” I mumbled and I wanted to sleep again, but of course, Julia just wouldn´t let me fall asleep again.

“Wake up, Paul! Halloween is coming and we have to make a decent prep for tomorrow!”

A prep? Oh, come on… I don´t want to celebrate Halloween at all… but I just cannot be so straightforward.

“And… what prep do you want to do?” I asked and I was almost afraid of the answer.

“I am happy that you have asked!” Julia giggled and she asked me: “What costume do you have for Halloween? Do you have a pirate costume or… movie costume? I would guess that you will be a Star Wars or Lord of the Rings type! So… my guess is… that you will go as Obi-Wan Kenobi! Am I right?”

Well… I was just staring at Julia… how could she be so certain that I even have my Halloween costume. And the way she was guessing that I am a fan of Star Wars and Lord of the Rings? Wow… She must really enjoy Halloween every single year, I guess.

“Nope! You are not right, Julia!” I answered and I continued: “You know… I have to admit that I don´t even have a Halloween costume because I am not celebrating Halloween!” I giggled and I was hoping that she would be okay with my answer.

But I should have been probably quiet because I think that I have just made things a lot worse. When I told her that I am not celebrating Halloween, she just opened her mouth and she was staring right at me like I was a ghost or something. I was tempted to say that there are really people who don´t celebrate it, but when I looked into her eyes, I kept my mouth shut. Then she took a deep breath and asked me again:

“Whaaaaaat? You don´t celebrate Halloween? Are you kidding me?”

“No… I just… I am too shy to celebrate Halloween… there are too many people everywhere and you know how much shy I am!” I answered, but still… it wasn´t enough explanation for her. She just couldn´t believe it and she was still staring at me.

“Oh… no no no, Paul… we cannot leave it like this! You will celebrate Halloween with me and Kate! And don´t worry! I promise you that you will enjoy it!”

“But… Julia… I am grateful, but…” And when I wanted to say that I will be happy to just stay here and do my things on Halloween day, Kate just came into our room. My second roommate and I guess that she will have the same point of view as Julia. They were like sisters. And of course… When she came in, Julia even didn´t greet her and she told her:

“You wouldn´t believe it! Paul doesn´t celebrate Halloween and he doesn´t have a single costume for tomorrow!”

And here we go again… At first, Kate was shocked as well and she was overwhelmed… How is this possible? She couldn´t believe it as well. Then Julia told her that I will celebrate Halloween with them. The funny thing was that they even didn´t ask me if I want. But I guess that I will have no choice in this.

“Well… then we have only one option, I am afraid…” said Kate and she looked at me and she asked me again: “You really don´t have a costume for Halloween?”

“Ehm… no… I have never celebrated Halloween so… I don´t have any…” I answered and this time it was me, who just couldn´t why they were so surprised.

“But now it is too late to get a costume… everything will be sold out… and nobody will borrow you a costume one day before Halloween…” regretted Julia. “So what are we going to do?” And I could see that both girls were really thinking hard to figure something out. And it took them a while. The moment I wanted to say that I don´t need a costume, Kate started to giggle and she said:

“Well… there is one brilliant option and I think that it will be very enjoyable! At the very least for me and for Julia. But I think that you will enjoy this too, Paul!”

“And what it is?” I asked and I was almost terrified… What could be on her mind?

“Since you are unable to get a costume, we will lend you one!” giggled Kate and she winked at Julia. Then Julia started to laugh and she laughed a lot. Then she asked Kate:

“Do you think that he will fit into it?”

“Of course… And you can´t even imagine how cute he is going to be!” giggled Kate.

“Mhmm…. what are we talking about?” I asked them because I had no idea what were they thinking… or what were they talking about. Kate looked at me and said:

“Well, don´t be afraid, our dear Paul! We will lend you my old costume!” giggled Kate.

“And… what it is?” I asked and I was getting really nervous.

“Close your eyes…” said Kate and I obeyed her. She walked away and I could hear her steps. She was looking for something and it took her just one minute and she came back. She put something on her bed and then she told me:

“Now you may look!”

And… OMG… I was frozen at that moment. I opened my eyes and on the bed was a huge yellow princess dress… nylon tights… bra… and yellow high heels… They cannot be serious.

“But… I … I cannot wear this!” I giggled and I thought that they were just bluffing, but Kate answered:

“We will see about it!”
